4 tourists arrested for getting naked on Malaysian mountain top

Their Malay guide told them not to, it isn’t right, the mountain is considered sacred/holy.

They didn’t care! That’s a special level of stupid, right there.

( I did a lot of silly and foolish things when younger, but nothing so insensitive, while a visitor in another land! )

Larry, in our early twenties we streaked naked across the stadium field at homecoming, the way Og intended it to be.

We did not spend several thousand dollars to travel to someone else’s country to flash the spirits.

keep us posted, pics of course:p

We sure do get hung up about nudity. We’ve really got to get over that.

But if we didn’t have hang-ups about nudity, what would be the thrill of getting nekkid on sacred mountain tops?

That’s actually my point. They’re doing it for some ridiculous invented reason, that got them into a kind of trouble that was equally ridiculous, and in the end could’ve all been avoided if we didn’t think nudity was a big deal - they wouldn’t have felt compelled to do it, and if they had done it they wouldn’t have been arrested.

We don’t get embarrassed getting naked in front of a Doctor, and we don’t get embarrassed getting naked in front of a loved one, so why does that translate into such embarrassment in other situations? At the least we should be pragmatic about it.

You’ve got to remember that Malaysia is a majority Muslim conservative country.

There was a recent outcry there because a gold medal winning female gymnast displayed her “aurat” by wearing a standard issue leotard during the SEA Games.

What was even more stupid about the Mt Kinabalu issue - you had a govt minister come out at say the nakedness caused the earthquake…
:confused::eek:

I was astonished to read that none of them were American. That sounds like something that, say, Kim Kardashian would do.

I’m American btw.

At least one of these kids has a website where if I understand him correctly he travels the world purposely exposing somewhat embarrassing conditions in countries(or at least things they would prefer stay out of the international spotlight like extreme poverty, beggars etc) and purposely fighting against and violating taboos and superstitions. So if you have a country where eating a corn dog at midnight angers the fire spirits, he will document it on his site that he violated it. He is apparently known for this and people expect it.

I could see becoming a real life troll if you have to live there and put up with nonsense like spirits, but as a professional real life tourist troll? Idiot.

This is exactly the superstitious nonsense they were trying to mock and expose to the world.

It seems something less than “wise”

but given what else in happening in Malaysia as regards their female Gold Medal gymnast - I think someone also needs to “prod” them about the difference between science and religion
