This query may soon be moot now that the big G has entered the market with a free service, but for the time being I’m still quite curious to know: when one calls 411 for directory assistance (not that there is anything else one can call them for), at what point is one charged for the call? That is to say, if they are unable to find the number, or if you decide you don’t need the service before you’re given the info, are you still charged?
