46 degree drop in temperature at my house

Nothing really earth shaking, I guess. Cleveland is known for its variable weather. Last night it was 45 F until about 10 PM. This morning it was -1 F.

When I installed my furnace 25 years ago I designed it for -20 F, the coldest temp ever around here. I also allowed for the addition I planned on building which I did in 2006. The latest ASHRAE specs call for +5 F design temperature.

It’s been --15 /20 several times since then and no problem. Zero is a walk in the park. Walking my dog in the park is not a walk in the park. Fortunately he is a cold baby. Today he made record time for his morning pee and poo and shot back on the porch. He prefers papa’s warm world. Good boy!

My dog is a cold-weather dog. I used to think she would love running the Iditarod, because she also has ADHD levels of energy. She’ll go out in a foot of snow and 20 degree weather, sniffing around leisurely for the perfect pee spot, while I’m going nuts.

However, I had to run to the dumpster today, in -8F temperature, and took her with me for a widdle. On the way back, she clearly had very cold toes. As soon as we were in sight of the front door, she wanted to run at full speed, and I couldn’t open our door fast enough.

My 10-year-old Russell Terrier is double-coated and does fine anywhere above 10 degrees F, but it’s been below -10 degrees the past few days and now he refuses to leave the house. I force him to go outside a few times a day, but he’s had it with winter and it’s not even Christmas yet.

I think we were pretty similar here in SE Wisconsin. I believe it was above freezing yesterday (almost felt like spring) and last I checked it was -7 with a windchill about 20f colder than that.

At my work, you have to walk about 50 feet outside to an unheated building to get to our walk-in freezer. It’s currently 10 degrees warmer inside the freezer than outside.

I remember once when it was so cold…

[How cold was it?]

It was so cold, I saw a dog urinate on a fence… and it was stuck there 'til Spring!

The dog or the urine?

It wouldn’t be a joke if it were the urine.

My parents’ furnace went out. The igniter I think, as my dad is able to light it manually. Furnace company won’t be around Monday but I might convince them to call around. Obviously everyone is booked right now with this huge swing in temps.

My parents have a furnace in their addition which is where they spend 99% of their waking time. So I guess they’re not too worried. They could always come sleep here.

I had my igniter replaced at my furnace checkup in November.

Our internet is down. That is putting a damper on a lot of people’s Netflix and Chill plans for today!

My dogs have a yard to go out in but so far I’ve only convinced them to potty once today. They have no interest otherwise. I think it’s the wind.

It was so “warm” last night. Everyone spent all day talking about preparing for the coming storm. It was weird to stand outside at 2 am in a warm drizzle. And now this!

I’m in the Cleveland area same as the OP.

5F this morning. I can feel every drafty spot in this house.

My plan is to stay inside until Spring.

Or at least until Tues

And now one of the neighbor’s cypress trees has come down, taking out part of one of our redbuds and one of his crape myrtles in the process.

Yesterday morning at 7 am it was 50deg. This morning it was 13. I live in southern South Carolina!

Piedmont of North Carolina. 44F yesterday morning, 7F this morning…when the electric power went out as I was getting a drink of water. Well before my normal wake-up time anyway and so I was content to just roll over and catch some more Zs.

I thought to myself, “could be worse…I’d be sweltering without A/C with an outage in the summer, whereas now I’ll just add layers” but what really bummed me out was knowing no wake-up coffee, and no internet. Power came back about 3 hours later, and I am grateful power failed 30 minutes before sunrise in a warm house, rather than at 2 or 3 AM.
