I was watching The Graham Norton Show the other day, and Keanu Reeves was one of the guests. Apparently, he’s in England getting ready to do a remake of The 47 Ronin, one of the classic samurai stories. There have been a number of movie versions of the story, so another remake is not the issue, but who thought Keanu Reeves makes sense for this? Add in a first-time director, the writer of the Fast and Furious movies, and 3-D, this screams disaster.
At least it’s not Nick Cage.
How do you say “whoa” in Japanese?
When I saw the thread title, I thought to myself, “Oh, cool.” Then I read the name “Keanu” and I though, “Oh, dear.”
That aside … has anyone else ever thought that a Disney cartoon version of the 47 Ronin would be … well, hilarious? Not if they actually made it, but just as a thought experiment? (How’re they gonna change the ending of this one?!)
Eh, its not like Reeves has never been in a good movie before. He’s not the worlds most versatile actor, but he’s hardly a death sentence for a film.
On the other hand, the writers filmography is pretty grim, fast and furious was probably the best movie he’s been associated with.
Also, glancing at Reeves filmography, he’s going to be in a Cowboy Beebop film later this year! Holy Crap!
ETA: or googling the Beebop movie, its apparently not happening this year anyways. Ah well.
Keanu Reeves?
Who do they have playing their leader, Tom Hanks? Will they cast Shia LeBeouf as the scrappy rookie?
Come on, people! We’ve got 47 samurai to cast*-- this could be the greatest ensemble movie since Ocean’s 13!
*White people only.
Dude, Keanu, is like, 1/16 Chinese, brah. Isn’t that pretty much the same thing as Japanese?
Q_Q
In Japanese, Keanu’s ‘woah’ is probably best translated as a very subdued すげい (sugei)
