5 year old girl raped and killed and more are expected...

Robert, in the pit thread that resulted from his remark, he said “thank you very much” or something similar, and that was what got him banned.

I agree with robertliguori on punishment. I’d take it one further, at the risk of the wrath of some of our more emotional posters.

Not only in this case, but in other recent cases, it seems like the immediate responses are graphic descriptions of what people would like to do to the perpetrators.

Kitty get barbecued? Lets strip the guy naked, a slow roast him with a spit up his colon.

Child dies in a hot car? Let’s throw the mom in an oven set on 250 degrees so she dies, but just not right away.

And I understand the emotions flowing here. I just don’t see how torturing a human being solves anything.

And I definitely think that this kid’s rapist/murderer should die. He gave up his right to share our planet. But I still couldn’t in a million years do some of the vicious shit to this guy that some people are proscribing.
In the heat of the moment might I have lost it and killed this guy, if say, I saw him in the act or something? Maybe. Probably. Hard to say. But I couldn’t, after the fact, torture anybody, no matter what he has done.

I hope this isn’t too much of a hijack.

Things like this just make me frightened for my son. I understand the anger and the fear and the hatred towards the perpetrator. Do I think I could do something horribly evil and painful in retribution to that man, had it been my son? I don’t know, it’s quite possible…maybe in the end, I couldn’t bring myself to do [insert horribly painful and disfiguring, but not life-ending type of torture here].

I just hope I am never in that situation.

RIP Samantha.

Ruffian, thank you for using the spoiler box to hide the nasty stuff. I didn’t look, I’m feeling plenty misanthropic today without further evidence of human shititude.

I read it…

(CRY)

That’s all I can say. :frowning:

Feel better, Lynn!

sending lots of chocolate vibes

Just be grateful (strange word, I know,) that we live in a mini-universe where these things still shock us. There are places in the world where incidents like this aren’t even news. We have the luxury of viewing this as a sick aberration. We have the resources and public demand to find the bad guy and convict him. The odds are against him, and when they get him the odds for little girls playing safely will get a little better.

I hope someday the entire world will have that benefit. Until then, shed a tear for all innocent victims everywhere.
