Well, despite the knee-jerks, I believe he “hit her a little”. They probably would have used the term “Sexual assault”, or “molested”, or “touched inappropriately” if it was sexual.
Casey, unless he shanked her ass with the knife, I don’t see why it takes it out of the realm of “hitting her a little”. Using a knife to lead someone without harming them with it is still only battery most places.
Ivy, why won’t you let your children go places anymore? This isn’t a common occurence, so your fears, while warranted as a mother, are just a little extreme. Before I have to hear about years ago it not being this way…well, reporting wasn’t this good, the media didn’t reach that far, and people tended to keep things quieter.
The world didn’t just go off and get ugly yesterday. Teach your kids to be careful, it’ll do a lot more for them than locking them up inside.
Oh, I let them go places. I let them play in the neighborhood, and when we’re out my son will escort my daughter to the bathroom and wait outside for her. I just won’t let them wander over in the next aisle alone.
It’s just frightening that an 11 year old girl can be attacked in this way and so quickly.
I heard on the radio that there was “fluids” found, so I think he sexually assaulted her. They may not have wanted to imply that she was raped since she’s so young.
Well, it was a poorly written/described account then. I mean, at one point it says something to the effect of, “…when too many people gathered and noticed he was assaulting the girl, he moved to a different aisle and assaulted her again…”
Ya, right here: “When too many shoppers walked into the area, he led her into the men’s clothing department, where he assaulted her again…”
Seriously, that’s FUCKED UP. He assaulted her while people were around? And nobody noticed until it was all over and the girl told her mommy?
He pulled a knife on an 11 year old girl. A knife!! I doubt it was a butter knife. It was likely a folding buck knife with a blade longer than she had ever seen in her life. She’s 11 years old fer chrissakes. I sincerely doubt that her life has ever been threatened before. Whether he said “Come with me or I’ll kill you” or not is irrelevant. Brandishing a knife to someone of any age makes it a life threatening situation. It should be aggravated assault at the very least, since he had a weapon. Asking if “he just hit her a little” is just plain ignorant and insulting. He threatened her with a knife. Whether he laid a finger on her or not from that point forward is almost irrelevant. He put a child’s life in danger.
I hope they catch this guy and lock him up. It is my understanding that prisoners, no mater how heinous their crime, do not take kindly to dirt bags like this who endanger children. Justice may be served by his fellow inmates.
Well, I’ll back you on that one, Casey1505.
What a horrid story - it’s apparent that the evidence is overwhelming. The only reason this story hit the big news is that the video was available, but it gives all of us the chills, nonetheless.
Ilsa_Lund: learn the rules, they aren’t that difficult.
You know, in “Chopper” Read’s first book (and the others, I believe) he claimed that people who commit crimes to children are the scum of the Earth and that everyone he knew in the jail looked down on it. I sure hope this prick meets the American Chopper very shortly, god knows he certainly deserves it.
Having never been in prison myself, I can’t say for sure what prison justice entails. Certainly intimidation plays a role (kind of like the way the suspect intimidated an 11 year old girl with a knife), as well as fear (“what are they going to do to me?”, like what runs through an 11 year old girl’s mind when a stranger brandishes a knife). I’m not naive enough to think that a “blanket party” isn’t in his future, but I never suggested that he be raped in prison.
I’m sure his fellow inmates will make his time in prison as uncomfortable as possible (not that it’ll be a picnic to begin with). While a civilized society may afford him certain rights, prisoners have been removed from civilized society (and kept out through bars, high stone walls, fences, razor wire, etc) and have formed their own, less civilized society with it’s own set of rules. At no point did I even remotely suggest rape. That is where I took offense. Ilsa_Lund’s comment was ignorant, insulting, and without merit. It appears that on her own, she chose to search the boards using the terms “rape” and “funny”. Those two terms had absolutely nothing to do with the thread in general or my posts to that point in particular.
The fact of the matter is that our “civilized society” treats our prisoners better than we treat our elderly and handicapped. The beauty of the matter is that a prisoner and his fellow inmates are, by definition, outside of “civilized society”.
Fuck him. Do you really think that girl is going to live a single day in which she doesn’t think about him? I realize that it’s too late to change what happened, but “civilized society” and child rapists running wild cannot coexist, capisci?
By the way, HOW FUCKING DARE you insinuate that anyone that wants to be 100% certain that this piece of shit never destroys another life is equivalent to a CHILD RAPIST! I have not “sunk down to his level”. How can you tell, you ask?
Because I’ve never fucked a child.
Fucking bleeding hearts. God forbid something should ever penetrate your utopian illusions and make you cry for justice, real justice, to be done. I pray that you never find yourself in the position that the parents of that child find themselves.
I was raped. Do I get the right to hope that inmates aren’t tortured in prison, or do I have to bear a child and have that child raped before I’m allowed?
The “sinking to his level” comment could easily be taken poorly, I admit, but still…
