Thanks for the link, good post. Though short-lived, the entire thread was interesting.
I subscribe to the theory that people generally like the first version of a song they hear best; whether it’s the original or a cover. Subsequent versions they come across are rarely met with the same level of appreciation; even if they’re a completely revamped version of the piece.
Question: Hasn’t Dylan seriously contended in several interviews that his entire songwriting career was a sham and a fraud? I’ve heard numerous people refer to such sentiments - but cant’ ever find such a quote. If such an admission exists, it would tend to give weight to the performer over the writer debate.
