6 months - 30 lbs

That’s the age and weight of my youngest niece. She was a huge baby (12+ lbs)and has been packing it on ever since. She was 100% breastfed until a few weeks ago, when she started to devour bananas and suck on bread.

Both her brothers (now 3 and 4) were quite hefty at her age, though she has them beat. They are still rather big for their ages, but not freakishly so. Neither has much fat on him.

Her mother was also a very large baby. She is now a moderately slim adult, 5’7" tall. Her father is 5’10" and a bit chunky, but it’s mostly muscle.

I’ve never run across a baby like this - very fat and very strong. She is amazingly good-natured. She loves being picked up, but she is quite an armful.

As long as the trend is that they’re growing up to be healthy and well-proportioned (and it seems they are) - that’s pretty cool!

My niece is very tall for her age (16mos) and I’m pretty sure I heard my brother say the other day that she is 22lbs. I’ll have to double-check that, though.

12 lbs is a very large newborn. Did the mom have gestational diabetes?

I thought this was going to be a thread on how much weight you’ve lost since February. :stuck_out_tongue:

I had a 12 pound baby in January of 2000. I can sympathize with your sister (SIL?)–trust me, that’s quite a load to carry those last two weeks or so! I didn’t have gestational diabetes, either. Both of my other babies were above average weight (almost nine pounds for one, and just over ten pounds for the other) as well.

But I got off easy–my FIL weighed FOURTEEN POUNDS at birth!! And he was born AT HOME, via natural childbirth. I guess it was a good thing for his mother that he was baby #8 and not the firstborn! (Still, he was born only two weeks after the death of his oldest brother. I just don’t know how the woman survived it.)

No - by all reports she was healthy as a horse throughout.

The baby has also been thoroughly healthy. One mild cold; no non-routine doctor visits.

One of my girlfriends had a son that between three and nine months resembed nothing more than a volleyball. Round, round, round. He did slim down as he got to toddler size.

I checked the CDC’s growth charts and determined that she’s 52% above the weight that would put her in the 95th percentile for 6-month-old girls. Yikes.
