60 degrees in January

It’s been so warm here that palm trees are blooming outdoors in the National Botanical Garden just down the street from the US Capitol, the cherry trees are blossoming, bulbs are sprouting all over (including in my garden), and there may not be much of an apple crop this year because the apple trees in Maryland and West Virginia are starting to bloom.

This is seriously fucked up.

Never mind Carson Daly. I’m freaked out because the lakes are not going to freeze before the jet stream drops. The snow is going to fall in Igloo blocks.

One of my pet hates of TV weather forecasts is the phrase “At least it will be mild”. And we get to hear it more and more these days.

“And now the weather. The entire Northern Hemisphere (except Colorado) will begin to combust over the weekend, as temperatures hit the high 200s Celsius (that’s about 500 Fahrenheit if you prefer). Rivers of molten rock may cause local flooding in low-lying areas, while the higher ground in the north may see the odd flurry of brimstone. Having said that, at least it will be mild for the time of year”.

:frowning:

Oh, I TOTALLY called this. It was so nice out yesterday. It’s snowing now.

It was raining this morning, and lightly chilly but mostly warm. Then the temperatures started dropping steadily. 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected on the valley floor.

At least I feel a little more comfortable, now. I’m still terrified, of course, because it was so freakin’ nice yesterday. SOMETHING is going to happen to even that out. 3 inches of snow doesn’t cut it.

So for those of you who still have nice weather - ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN!

I took a picture.

There’s normally a mountain where all of that white space is. A freakin’ MOUNTAIN. Not a little hill. A mountain. Donner Summit, in fact. It’s huge. And you can’t see it because snow is dumping down on my little town.

BUT I feel much better. It’s not spring yet, it is, in fact, winter. Now that everything is going nuts due to the weather, I feel much more comfortable.

It is currently 60F in Baltimore. There is new growth in my lawn and there are still fleas living in my yard (and by extension, trying to eat my dog).

Although, having put in my time in the Arctic, I don’t mind so much.

51 degrees here today. No snow yet. It might be 2 years in a row without Lake George freezing over.

My boyfriend feels the same way, except the opposite - he put his time in in the desert (special operations, Desert Storm), so he’s loving the snow.

Well I, for one, am loving this winter, especially my heating bill (screw you, gas company!). What I’m not loving is the cold I currently have that is preventing me from riding my bike to work.

I do worry about my pear trees, though.
