60 foot pine tree... Is that all you got?

Wow……

Not exactly the luck I was shooting for but hey no complaints.

Big storm last night.
Big tree fall on house.
Small whole in roof.

Renting.
Missed the DTV dish by a foot.
Missed the antenna by less.
Missed the wife’s car by 6 feet.
Pulled the power cable onto the ground but did not lose power.
We weren’t killed in our sleep.
Essentially, I am unaffected by a 60 foot white pine falling on my residence. I’d buy a lottery ticket but I think I’m all used up for awhile.

Anybody else dodge a bullet recently?

We had a bad storm come through last week. About 60 trees came down around town damaging power lines, vehicles, houses, and businesses. Thankfully, noone was hurt.

Our malady was minor in that one tree came down and blocked the road about 200 yards north of the house, another came down and blocked the road about 400 yards south of the house.

Not much compared to your plight. Glad that everyone’s OK.

Thank God!!! We’ll still be able to watch NFL ticket!!!

Oh yeah, glad to hear no one’s hurt.

I tell you what Gazoo, I have no idea how it missed the dish. I think the power line must have bravely sacrificed itself for the greater good thus averting a fatal blow to the dish.
It was interesting to walk around and see how it narrowly missed so many things. Especially in the middle of the storm right after it happened. Wild!!

Along with everything else that we got lucky about it was nice that it didn’t happen last week while we were gone. That would have made a nice surprise to come home to.

Oh and for the record everyone. When you call the power company to tell them your power line is laying across your driveway don’t volunterr that the power is still on or your priority drops drastically. Still had power but we were trapped like rats until WPS got there to take care of the line about 8 hours later.

Eh, Sledman, I think the power company’s priority is probably not so much “do you still have power?” but rather “are people endangered by the downed power line?” They probably made their call (not to come out ASAP) on the basis of the fact that it was draped across your driveway, not endandering the public safety by being in the street.

I would think they would have come out sooner rather than later if it was a live power line. Maybe you were on the “A” list after all, but so were about a million other people, and you just had to wait your turn.

Just a WAG.

P.S. Don’t knock having a tree take out your garage–I know people here who had a tree fall on their garage and it was the best thing that ever happened to them. It was one of those 1920’s creaky old things, and the insurance paid off nicely, they got a brand-new 2-car garage.

BTDT. The next week we cut down all the damn pine trees and sold 'em to the paper company. Ahhh, revenge…

I watched that storm roll through on the news last night. It missed us, again - fortunately. All summer Minnesota has been getting hit with floods and hail and high winds/tornados, but it’s all pretty much going around my area.

Am happy no one was hurt, Sledman
