60's - early 80's Pop hits that are now really hard to find

I am big fan of 60’s - 80’s obscurities, and these are songs that in all my XM 60’s, 70’s and 80’s channel listening, downloading CD buying, etc. are songs I have rarely seen:

Keem-O-Sabe- Electric Indian
Goin’ Down- Greg Guidry
Think- Once you Understand

Actually I think I have seen 1 on import comps on Amazon. And while typing this I just found a link to “Once You Understand”- this ‘song’ is hliarious- to think it actually made #23!I can’t believe I don’t remember this at all:

If not ok to post the link, please delete.

That song is weird. It’s also annoying.

If you want some good obscure songs from the 60’s and 80’s, I recommend this and this. I don’t have the first one (I wish I did), but I have the second one and it’s great.

I looked up Greg Guidry, and according to allmusic, “Goin’ Down” has only been issued on his first album. He has no compilations, and the song itself has never been issued on any various artists compilation, nor has the album containing it ever been issued on CD. You’re kinda SOL there, unless you want to buy the vinyl single, which can be had for about $10. I’ll get you a link for it, if you’re interested.

The Electric Indian track is a whole other kettle of fish. It’s available on a CD called “Hard To Find Pop Instrumentals”. The downside is that it costs between $100 and $170 for a copy! That’s a helluva lot of appreciation in value for a $12 CD that came out in 1999! But wait, here it is on “Jukebox Hits Of 1969 Vol 1”, which you can get, used, for $7.50 on amazon.

It’s amazing, “Once You Understand” is only available on ONE CD compilation called “Dead! - The Grim Reaper’s Greatest Hits.” Fortunately, this can be had, used, for $8.79 on amazon. You’d also get 23 other songs about dying (it doesn’t include Bloodrock’s “DOA” though).

Cool- does anyone else have any other examples of such songs? Probably not many, as everything ever recroded is porbably on CD somewhere by now.

Of what songs? Songs you’ve rarely heard? Besides being incredibly obscure and hard to find, what’s the connection between them?

Anybody got the CD “Streetband…featuring Paul Young”? It contains the brilliant novelty track “Toast”, which I think I only ever heard on Dr. Demento. I can only find a listing that this CD exists, but not a place to buy one.

Songs that were big hits of their day, but now are rarely or never seen on compilations.

“Evil Woman (Don’t Play Your Games with Me)” and “Cottage Cheese” by Crow, hits in 1969-70. (“Evil Woman” was covered by Black Sabbath on their first album, but left off of the American edition.) K-Tel did put out a Crow compilation on CD, but it’s long out of print and commanding silly prices.

one more…even though I often hear Chris Thompson’s and Night’s (or whatever they were called) “If you Remember Me”, I have not heard their equally popular “Hot Summer Nights” in decades.

Hey, I have that one! I got it on amazon for about six bucks. I got another K-Tel CD for cheap called “Biker Rock” that has the Steve Hoffman remaster of Steppenwolf’s “Born To Be Wild” that has no fade on the coda, and no guitar solo over it. Now it goes for extremely stupid prices, too.

Chris Thompson & Night have a compilation consisting of their two albums, and both of the songs you want are on it. The title is “Night / Long Distance.”

I’d imagine Frankie Smith’s “Double Dutch Bus” (#2 in 1981) is fairly difficult to locate right now…probably just as well.
