Thanks for the info! I just went to the Apple site and saw that they’re “Updating the store”. I’ve been eyeing the 80GB iPod and was going to upgrade to that but now that a 160 gigger is coming out, I’m chomping at the bit. (I’m currently using my 60GB as well as my 40GB and have been playing “favorites” with my music already.)
Well, shit… when does that take effect?
Ummm…the iPhone CAN download and purchase music from iTunes.
Now
If you horrible nerds fuck up my getting on the bus to get to work on time like you did with the campground you built around the apple store waiting for the god damn iPhone I will FLIP MY SHIT
How exactly does one flip one’s shit? Does it involve a spatula?
RE: the latest iPods
I can’t say I’m all that impressed or overwhelmed with the nano. I grow increasingly frustrated with Apple’s insistence on shoving video into everything at, in this case, the expense of it’s primary perk (size). I love my nano specifically because I can drop it anywhere on my person without knowing it’s there, while still having 99% of my music on hand. With the new one? Just wide enough to be obnoxious while still being too small in dimensions for easy video viewing and too small in space to fit that many video files anyhow. Plus the colors look washed out and blase.
The only thing that interests me would potentially be the iPod touch, but most of the features that excite me are also pretty useless to me on a day-to-day basis. This is honestly the first time I feel the need to say that I’ll wait to see what comes out next year. Total meh.
Sorry about that last time lobstermobster, but I couldn’t hear you screaming “get out of the way” over my iPod which was blaring the White Stripes through my apple headphones. Did you like my Apple T-shirt by the way?
Holy mother of purl… that iPod Touch is one I might actually BUY. Wow…
Well let’s see, if past history is any guide, I should be due for a new iPod around the third week of December after my current 30GB either breaks a week out of warranty or is stolen. That 160GB sounds interesting. I’m not a big fan of the touch screen interfaces because I already spend too much time wiping fingerprints of my screen but if it has good print resistance I wouldn’t mind a widescreen.
wow as in they have shipped 1,000,000 of them at $499 and $599, and now they are cutting the price by 1/3.
Wow as in just how many do you think they will sell now? I believe the correct answer is a metric buttload.
iPod Touch. Touchscreen, check. WiFi, check. Web browser, check. 16GB for $399, whoa! Who wants a 16GB iPod for $400? Even if it is real purty: http://common.ziffdavisinternet.com/util_get_image/16/0,1425,sz=1&i=168506,00.jpg
I’d rather get the 160GB (that’s one hundred and sixty) “classic” for $350. (http://www.laptoplogic.com/data/news/images/3130/ipod-classic-1.jpg)
Yeah, it was a simultaneously exciting and disappointing display. I was really looking forward to the Touch, but when they announced that it’d be entirely Flash-based and only 16gb at the outside, they totally lost me.
The 160gb “classic” is tempting, even if I really don’t like the all-metal 2G Nanoesque design. It worked for the Nano. The Video/Classic, not so much. The new UI doesn’t really impress me much, either.
I’m torn. I really want the Touch, but it has got to have at least 32gb to be a worthwhile purchase for me. I like the 160gb Classic, too, but the design is uninspiring, the UI hasn’t really been upgraded enough to be worth the bother, and overall I can’t really decide if it’s worth upgrading my 60gb Video for.
The 3G Nano “phatty” is fugly as hell.
sigh I can’t help but feel that while the new stuff is nice, there are disappointments aplenty here.
On a good note for iPhone hopefuls, they’ve slashed $200 off the price of the 8gb models and discontinued the 4gb version.
I was very close to buy the 80 gb version a week ago for $350. Had it been available at Costco or Target, I’d own it now. Now I can get the same storage, with more battery life for $100 less.
Woo hooo!
Hijack, does anyone know if the student discount will apply to the new iPods?
stpauler, you can find out at this link:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore
click on education store (navigation bar on right-hand side)
on the next screen, choose your type of school
then see if the prices are lower
The four gig iPhones are $299 while they last, both online and at the Apple Stores.
I couldn’t resist at that price. This thing is sweet as can be…
For those who want to bask in the steve’s Reality Distortion Field, the keynote is available at:

Brian
Please, what means “Steve’s Reality Distortion Field”?
It means he’s hot and I swoon whenever I watch him.
It means exactly what it sounds like it means. When Steve says or does something, the very nature of reality is altered.
Steve says that Safari is the best web browser out there? It is.
Steve says that the iPhone gives you the “true internet”? It does.
Steve suggests that you need a bigger brighter screen to watch video on your Nano? You do.
Steve informs you that the ability to create ringtones from music you already own for an additional $.99 is a good deal? It is.
These are not the droids you’re looking for.
$599 is a completely reasonable price for a sexy cell phone.
Wait! Now $399 is a completely reasonable price for a sexy cell phone.
You need a new iPod.
