700 Club

Excessive punctuation is cool, but it’s no CAPS LOCK.

Do you all realize in sandy areas water wells are dug in a few hours or less, often by just using water from the sea to drill with? It is not like you are in the rocky mountains. They can be fitted with hand pumps like in the 1800’s too so power is not needed for them to get water. The Seabees should have gotten off those Navy ships and done this upon arrival, yes indeed.

Months of planning are NOT needed to go send a team to repair an existing water plant either, just supply some generators and some skilled workers they already have who had worked there, and give them materials and tools.

Yeah, the greedy fuckers.

A friend of mine is just shipping 7 large water purifiers out there that can be hooked up to the water supply (which is still working in places) or wells.

It’s not either-or, Streakypants.

No, I don’t remember that because Pat did not say that. What he did say was stupid, but he didn’t say what you’re claiming. And the day he said that, he also noted that they were presently getting assistance out to Haiti.

So good of you to know what’s in people’s hearts.

Ah, Silverstreak. You’ve turned into my new Kanicbird. That greedy so-and-so doesn’t post enough.

Even if that were so, what’s it to you if we bring them bottled water in the meantime?

(And no shit, you’re going to want another bottle. Duh. Greedy bastards. Probably want another clean bandaid too! Can’t they make their own?)

Build a man a fire and you’ll keep him warm for an hour. But set a man of fire and he’ll be warm for the rest of his life.

Even better than my stupid fish idea.

I just picked up The 700 Club 700 DVD boxset on Amazon. Only $699.99!

I wouldn’t pay more than $666 for it.

Well, where do you think the portion Pat isn’t sending to Haitian relief will go?

My take was that they were looking for people to give to the 700 club like usual, but right now they’ll send part of it to the Haiti relief effort. It seems sleazy to me.

And he certainly did blame the people of Haiti. He said their disasters were because the Haitians had made a pact with the devil to drive out the French. I’m not sure why Christianity is so big on having the innocent descendants of sinners take on the blame themselves. I guess that means conservatives will support reparations to descendants of slaves.

I’m sitting here in my Terry cloth robe thinking I’m such at Prat. Chet Atkins mp3 playing off my computer Disk. World of difference is what some magical music makes.

Surely you meant $6.66. Decimals are important, ya know. :stuck_out_tongue:

Your not saying we should set Silverstreak Wonder on fire … or are you?*

CMC fnord!
*We’d certainly see if he’d prefer a bottle of water now or a rebuilt water supply infrastructure whenever it actually can be rebuilt and put back online!

He said this meaning that the current population must do this to end the curse on Haiti.
That clearly puts the blame on the people of Haiti.
Board rules prevent me from posting what’s in my heart.

You and I differ on the meaning of “blame”. In Christian theology, all of us are under the curse of sin & death & separation from God until we turn to Him through Jesus. It doesn’t mean we’re to blame for anything but our own personal sins.

I will say this:

“They need to have, and we need to pray for them, a great turning to God.”

is actually pretty good advice for a people in which Voodoo is predominant.

Pretty good advice for anyone, really.

Read up on Vodun.

[QUOTE]
Today, there are two virtually unrelated forms of the religion:

An actual religion, Vodun practiced in Benin, Dominican Republic, Ghana, Haiti, Togo and various centers in the US - largely where Haitian refuges have settled.

An evil, imaginary religion, which we will call Voodoo. It has been created for Hollywood movies, complete with violence, bizarre rituals, etc. It does not exist in reality.

I don’t know that that follows, exactly. He blamed the leaders of Haiti at the time of the Revolution (for the whole pact with Satan thing), and said that the current Haitians need both charity now and to turn to God, i.e. become evangelical Christians. But Pat thinks everybody should become an evangelical Christian. If you ask him about Norway or Botswana, he’d say they need to turn to God and become evangelical Christians too, and then their lives woud improve.

So I don’t think he’s blaming the Haitians now for the actions of their ancestors. It’s just in Pat Robertson’s view, natural disasters happen because somebody’s pissed God off. Hurricanes in Florida? It’s because Disneyworld has Gay Day. Not the fault of everybody in Florida, just the Disney people, but the hurricane hits because his God is indiscriminate in the infliction of suffering.

Hurricane Katrina hits? It’s because women are getting abortions, and God’s pissed off that America allows that. It’s not the specific fault of the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. There are plenty of people in coastal Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama who never got abortions and don’t even approve of them, but again, angry indiscriminate God.

Or, he agrees with Falwell that God let the 9/11 attacks happen because of the ACLU, abortionists, feminists, pagans, lesbians and gays. Not everybody in the twin towers or Pentagon were these things, but angry indiscriminate God.

Read up on Vodun.

I actually knew the basics of what was in that article, and the only correction I would make in what I said is in replacing “Voodoo” with “Voudoun”, the spelling of Vodun with which I’m most familiar.
