“Smooth Jazz” is usually funky, or a fit too fast for what I’ve been trying to find, and I can’t think of a music search engine that has tempo as a filter… I’m looking for jazz chords, slow tempo, don’t even care if there’s vocals and percussion… Always love electric piano, but also acoustic piano… flute… acoustic guitar… Sustained strings, deep echoes, pulsating… Relaxing. Meditative.
An example would be a song by Lonnie Liston Smith - Meditations … Maybe another word would be “ambient”?
I’ll post the title and the song, just in case the video URL changes, etc… it’s sad seeing old archived threads on here with a lot of songs with nothing but a video that is unavailable.
I feel your pain. I have SiriusXM radio and I’m always looking for “soft” jazz channels. They have a channel called “Watercolors” that I think comes pretty close to what you are looking for…
Boney James, Brian Culbertson, Rick Braun, Jonathan Butler, Keiko Matsui, Dave Koz, Peter White, Paul Hardcastle, Jeff Lorber, Gerald Albright, Nick Colionne, Lily, PJ Faulkner, Talaya
Two jazz radio stations come to mind that may have segments of the type of music you’re looking for. They’re free and (mostly) ad free as they’re affiliated with Public Radio. There is KCSM in San Francisco and KMHD in Portland, OR. We’ve always got KCSM on the Sonos. Afternoons seem to have the mellower jazz you’re talking about, without being elevator music. For instance, right now (2:30 CST) I’m hearing Nat King Cole singing ''Stardust". Doesn’t get much mellower than that.
