Name the artist/band if you can

Okay, this is a real long shot. On the jazz station we listen to, they’ve been playing an orchestral version of “I Only Have Eyes For You”, the old belly-rubbing dance tune. It really caught my ear, but I have no idea who was performing it. Also missed the artist on the next two times I heard it. So here are some metrics:

*Full orchestra, probably fairly modern day
*No vocals
*Lots of horns, mostly muted for some oh-wah oh-wah sounds in the background
*Trumpet solo that sounds somewhat like Wynton
*Very soulful sounding

I looked on YouTube, but couldn’t find it. Checked for Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, but no joy. Win a cookie!

In the old days (50s? 60s?) there were lots of instrumental versions of popular songs recorded as “mood music.” Is that the kind of thing you heard?

What jazz station are you listening to? KMHD? When was the last time you heard this song?

Pretty sure I said that it sounds like a modern jazz orchestra, not elevator music from the 50s. So Winterhalter, Faith, Coniff and all those lounge orchestras are out.

It’s KCSM in San Francisco. It’s been about a week.

Lester Bowie’s Brass Fantasy; the album shares the song’s title. There’s a video on YouTube but it says it’s only available to some kind of premium membership.

The album is available on Amazon tho for $9.

As an FYI, nearly every radio station has a website with their playlists; that’s how I found this: https://kcsm.org/playlist/pub_date_search.php

Wow! I’m impressed! I’ll see if I can download it from iTunes.

Oh, and here’s your cookie.
