I’ve been watching it on cable.
What are Kookie and his kind? Not hippies, Goths, or hipsters.
Beatniks?
eta: rats! ninja’d!
Yeah, beatniks.
I thought beatniks were like unto Maynard G. Krebs.
I don’t recall Maynard ever calling Dobie Gillis “Dad”.
Or tackling a Bad Guy.
… Or working.
WORK!!!
Exactly.
Zelda.
I was in love with Zelda.
I think I was eight or nine.
… And you were devastated to learn Sheila James plays for the other team?
No, I was seven at the oldest.
Early love.
Sigh.
I was more devastated to learn that she was a lawyer.
One can reform from playing for the other team.
In other words, it might not take? :dubious:
Kookie was kind of a melange of beatnik philosophy and hood aesthetic.
My young boy crush was Marta Kristin of Lost in Space, as long as we’re putting it out there.
Thalia was my crush.
I don’t think there was a specific category for guys like Kookie. Sort of a cross between smooth ladies’ man/street tough/hep cat. There weren’t very many of 'em around, mainly because the combination of qualities that comprise a guy like that are hard to pull off in real life.
The blonde? “Bring Me the Head of Dobie Gillis”?
Hep cat!
Thanks, Starving Artist!
I always preferred Angela Cartwright, aka Penny Robinson. :o
Hep cat, that’s it!
Mea Culpa.
Thanks for fighting ignorance!
Not embarrassed to say it. She’s my age and I fell in love with her on Danny Thomas.
