78th Oscars Thread (unboxed spoilers)

jon stewart so far–disappointing? (I don’t believe that he wrote the monologue, but would he do someone else’s material??)

Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Wererabbit takes Best Animated Movie.

Naomi’s dress is hideous. It looks like a ragged potato sack.

Now I remember why I don’t like Dolly Parton.

Does Ben Stiller feel like a dick in that green suit? He sure has stones to get up there and do that schtick.

Best Visual Effects:

King Kong

OK, this might be one of the few it gets, though I thought TLTW&TW would get it.

Best Animated Feature:

Wallace and Gromit

Didn’t see it but I plan to. Love Howl’s Moving Castle, so it’d better be good to beat that. Nice bowties, guys.

Dolly Parton is really enjoying a resurgence these days. She sounded good.

“painful” is too kind.

She looks freakish and extremely thin. One too many plastic surgeries, I think.

Dolly Parton’s lips are scary.

Amen, sister. Notice I’m like 10 posts behind in my “annoucements” of the winners. :frowning:

Well, everyone’s already forgotten about Ben, since Dolly is making an absolute fool of herself. I can’t watch…

Dolly Parton doesn’t look like she’s aged a day over the last twenty years.

Stiller’s Green Screen bit was hilarious! Inspired. “This is Blowing Spielberg’s mind!”

I don’t get the Christian Traveller, Dolly Parton, performance, though? WTF!

I like her! She’s kinda retro-cool and her freaky look is her trademark. She’s all right by me. Can’t wait to see “Hard Out There For a Pimp.”

Looks like they’ve done away with the live orchestra.

About 2/3 of Stewart’s material is pretty good. Loved the montage of ‘gay’ western clips, and Clooney’s speech.

Didn’t get the whole bow-tie thing with Nick Park.

Dolly Parton’s face looks like it was sprayed with resin.

Back to the show.

ben stiller was funny! That kind of stuff helps middle america feel more included!

I’m not a big Dolly fan but I thought she gave a great performance. I’m just glad it wasn’t the same ole Elton John/Phil Collins bit.

I’m looking forward to a guest post from a “G-Dub”. The “elephant” in the room, as it were. He will doubtless snivel that Hollywood is out of touch…As soon as he gets their thumb out of his eye…

I thought Jon’s monologue was pretty good, but a little forced – he was trying too hard or understandably nervous. Though lines like “this will be the first time many of them vote for a winner” was Jon Stewart classic. The opening montage with the previous hosts was excellent, though, as was the gay cowboy montage.

I don’t really think people are in much of a mood to laugh, though. I’m sure most of them are pretty nervous.

ya think? I love Stewart, but I’m nervous for him so far…
