78th Oscars Thread (unboxed spoilers)

Watching the Oscar countdown on ABC now…

Keira Knightly’s dress is great, and she was pretty funny in her interview. Were there pockets in Amy Adams’ dress? Weird.

Post your thoughts to this thread as you have them. It’ll be virtual company for those of us who having nothing better to do on a Sunday night but watch the Oscars and post to the SDMB,.

I usually don’t watch award shows, and since pretty much the only nominated movie I saw this year was Crash (and it was a DAMN good movie!!!), I’m only tuning in long enough to see what Jon Stewart has to say.

Michelle Williams’ dress was hideous. The color, the pleats, ewww. But Heath Ledger looked great.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett were quite cute and they seem to be having fun.

Salma Hayek looked great, and her booty makes Jennifer Lopez’s look like nothing.

Holy crap, the male commentator, whoever he is, is so damn obnoxious. Where did they find that guy?

I loved the intro - the jokes seem to be bombing - except for the attack on journalists - and the Cheney joke.

She was trying on Oscar dresses and Dick Chaney shot her.

Jon’s doin’ okay.

I don’t think the jokes are bombing; I just think the audience isn’t sure yet what Jon’s gunna do.

But he’s cracking me up.

Charlize looks stunning, as always. But Joaquin has put on a few pounds, eh?

Stewart is not getting laughs, no, and he seems to be holding back on his usually ebullient wit. Paul Giamatti’s face said it all. However, the gay cowboy montage was totally priceless.

Wow. Lots of gay jokes. Who’d of thunk it!

Wow, George wins best supporting. And he always gives a good speech.

George Clooney is a classy guy. Nice speech.

I’m one for one.

Best Supporting Actor goes to:

George Clooney

He was my pick and I think it was well-deserved. This was a hot category this year, too. I liked the first line: “OK, so I’m not winning Best Director…” Good speech, no boring list of people to thank, topical, eloquent, just what I expect from GC. Very nice.

The gay cowboy montage had me laughing out loud.

I liked Clooney’s speech. He doesn’t seem to have a lot of ego.

The only dog I have in this fight is hoping that PSH gets best actor. That was some seriously amazing work he did in Capote.

I normally don’t watch these sorts of ego-wank fests but I’m at a dinner with nothing else to do.

I thought Clooney’s speech was actually very good. So far I am enjoying this.

Kong for Visual Effects. And what the hell was that presentation?

To let us know that Ben Stiller was Jewish.

Green screen technology." Heh.

Ben Stiller’s bit was painful, as is the speed at which this message board is moving tonight.
