8 R&R hall of fame members on 1 song

I wonder if any other song has more than 8 , not all from 1 group.

Tom Petty Neil Young Eric Clapton Bob Dylan Roger McGuinn George Harrison Steve Cropper Duck Dunn also at the show:

Lou Reed
Ron Wood
Chrissie Hynde
John Mellencamp

Also Stevie Wonder and Pearl Jam were there. Willie Nelson was there and he’s in the country music HOF

16 members of Parliament-Funkadelic are in the HoF, so presumably any recording featuring that lineup would meet your requirement.

The final scene of Blues Brothers 2000(yeah I know we all try to repress the memory of it) when the Gator Boys and Blues Brothers played together would be a candidate.

Maybe the finale of The Last Waltz? I’m too lazy to check right now.

I said not all in 1 group.

We Are The World maybe deserves mention.

OK I looked it up. In addition to The Band, the following were on stage:

Paul Butterfield - harmonica, vocals / Bobby Charles - vocals / Eric Clapton - guitar, vocals / Neil Diamond - guitar, vocals / Dr. John - piano, guitar, congas, vocals / Bob Dylan - guitar, vocals / Ronnie Hawkins - vocals / Joni Mitchell - acoustic guitar, vocals / Van Morrison - vocals / Larry Packer - violin / John Simon - piano / Ringo Starr - drums / Stephen Stills - guitar / Muddy Waters - vocals / Ronnie Wood - guitar / Neil Young - guitar, harmonica, vocals / Bob Margolin - guitar (for Muddy Waters) / Pinetop Perkins - piano (for Muddy Waters) / Dennis St. John - drums (for Neil Diamond) / Carl Radle - bass (on second encore Jam)

So, I am guessing more than 8 hall of famers, for whatever that’s worth.

Nice research. Thank you.

One strange example of a song with a lot of famous musicians doing backup is “Basketball Jones”:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basketball_Jones_featuring_Tyrone_Shoelaces

It reached #15 on the US chart. While Earache My Eye with only studio musicians reached #9. There must be a lesson in there somewhere. A really, really stupid lesson.

I’m counting 13 plus the Jackson Five count as 1? 5? (Then you have to get into Hall & Oates, etc.) Also producer Quincy Jones is in. Lionel Richie isn’t in it???

A lot of other Hall of Fames: Songwriter, Country, Hollywood Walk of, etc. Two of the session musicians are in the Iowa R&R Hall.

It’s predecessor, Do They Know It’s Christmas?, seems to have only 4. British, many from the same few groups like Boomtown Rats and Duran Duran. Boy George’s old group Culture Club has a song in the R&R HoF.
