80's Cartoon expert needed

I am curious if anybody remembers the following 80’s saturday morning cartoon. I do not remember a whole lot about it and everyone that I have ever mentioned it to has thought I was making it up.

I believe that it may have been a short cartoon between full length cartoons. It featured 4 “superhero’s”. There was baby man (whipped his baby bottle around his head), cuckoo man (just a weirdo), Rope Man (superhero made of rope), and there was 1 other that I cannot remember but I want to say that he was a strongman?

If anyone has any info on this cartoon I would love to hear it. It was a really funny cartoon. Right up there with the Menudo spots between the cartoons and school house rock. Well I’m off to make some wagon wheels (two crackers with a hunka hunka hunka cheese in the middle).

You’re not imagining things. I recall the same cartoon. But I can’t come up with a name. But it being part of another cartoon sounds familiar.

Good luck.

I remember that too. Couldn’t get the foggiest of a notion of the name, but some web trawling came up with this.

The Mighty Heros!

I remember it as well, just not the name. You may want to check here. Maybe one of the names looks familiar:

Even if you don’t find what you were looking for originally, this is a great site to get lost in for a few hours. (Days even)

As jb_farley pointed out, they were the Mighty Heroes.

The show ran from 1966 to 1967, so maybe that’s why you’re having trouble finding it. Is it possible you’re older than you think you are?

What jb_farley said. Mighty Heroes ran on CBS during 1966…

Apparently a short-lived comic book based on the show briefly appeared in 1989.

jb_farley hit the nail on the head. The fellows are indeed the Mighty Heroes and there were five of them.

Strong Man (yyyeah-HOO)
Diaper Man (Up, up and away!)
Rope Man (What ho!)
Tornado Man (Wheeeee!)
Cuckoo Man (Heh haw haw - eh, coo-coo! coo-coo!)

They were a lot older than the 80s, as the link to the comic book cover indicates.

Here’s one link with a bit of their history. Damned if I’d known Ralph Bakshi was behind all this!

One from Don Markstein’s Cartoonopedia

And, just because Opal hates lists of less than three, and because it warrants incusion, their theme song.

FTR, RopeMan was a sailor, and his battle cry was “Gung Ho!”

Sua

Yeah yeah yeah, I couldn’t remember his cry. I was close, though!

Strong Man was a construction worker.
Diaper Man was just a baby.
Rope Man was a sailor.
Tornado Man was a weather reporter.
Cuckoo Man was a pet store owner.

So there. :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow! Thank you for your responses. My sanity is intact. Well maybe… Im 26, born in 1974. Perhaps my memories are from the late seventies and not the 80’s. Still though according to all the pages about mighty heroes it didn’t run then. Hmmmmmm…strange. It must have replayed occasionally because I remember it pretty vividly.

Also MannSlaughter. That site ROCKS! I forgot all about the burgertime arcade game! Thanks.

The “Cartoonopedia” site Olentzero linked to said it was shown in syndication into the 1980s. That’s probably how pezpunk and I saw it. I double-checked, and I was indeed born in 1969, so I couldn’t have caught it when it was first aired. But I too have vague memories of this show. Not yer typical superhero cartoon…

I cannot for the life of me remember any specific episodes of this show, but I rememember the opening very clearly, where all the characters were introduced.
What a great show.

Oh, and I didn’t know Bakshi did Spiderman as well. Another fabulous cartoon I saw in reruns. Great great theme song.

Hell, I’ve only been around since the late seventies, but I certainly remember this show. Musta seen it in Reagan’s first term, cuz the memories are foggy.

Yeah, well, I was born in 1960, so I’m just the right age to remember this. Vaguely.

Like pricciar, I recall the opening sequence, where they would hear a call for help and transform into superheroes. I remember Rope Man as a sailor, tying knots in rigging.

Man, what WAS it with the Saturday morning superhero parodies in the mid-'60s? There were dozens of 'em! Was it the MAD magazine influence? The reefers?

Full disclosure - born in 1969, well after the original run. I saw it in syndication during the early to mid-80s, although it showed up on the weekday afternoon cartoon fest on WLVI-56, Boston.

Heh… I love it when the board dredges up long lost electrochemical patterns in the noggin.
I think I caught the show on the same channel Olentzero did (born the same year, lived in CT). Didn’t it get played on that horrid clouns show? Willie ‘my-voice-will-make-you-want-to-climb-up-a-bellt-ower-with-a-22’ Whistle. Or was he on channel 38. Or do I just hate clouwns? Whatever. Thanks for the Mighty Heros memory

They showed it on WLVI mixed in with Mighty Mouse and Casper the Wimpy Ghost and things like that.

Olentzero, that is sooo cool – we had a simulpost, and it reads like I was correcting your post. In fact, I posted mine before reading yours, and I was simply noting my favorite memory of the cartoon.

As it happened, it made me look bright, so I don’t mind. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sua

Wow, from that same site that Olentzero gave with the theme song they have a real video clip with the opening.

Cool stuff.
That is a great cartoon site, Olent, thanks for pointing it out to me.

Man, I’m having flashbacks now…

Yeah, Rhythmdvl, Willie Whistle was on channel 38, WSBK. I’m proud to say that, even as a pre-schooler, I had enough taste to loathe the squeaky little freak.
