80's movie where a white guy trains to defeat a black guy with a finishing move

Hey all,

I have been searching for the name of a movie for a long time. I came across this page '70s or '80s karate movie stars black actor, red vest/jacket, who says "Leroy" ?? - Cafe Society - Straight Dope Message Board and decided I would see if you folks could help me out.

What I remember about the movie is this. There is a tournament or contest inside a ring. The ‘bad guy’ is a black man who had a 3 part finishing move. One part of the move was him jumping and hitting his opponent on both sides of their face with each foot. In other words, he would hit his opponent in both their temples at the same time using both his feet.

The ‘good guy’ was white and trained to beat this guy. One part of his training consisted of two logs being dropped trees, on opposite sides, to teach him to block the finishing move.

Does this description ring any bells for you?

Thank you

Anybody?

Thought about it. I got nothin’. Sorry.

I took the liberty of posting your question on the IMDb board, and one expert posited that your movie might be King of the Kickboxers (1990).

Ooooooh, that’s bad.

Wow, just wow. If there was anyway I could stand two hours of that, I am curious as could be about how they set up that final showdown.

That matches the OPs description perfectly. And wow, is that AWFUL. I especially like how blocking the second kick doesn’t actually block it at all. You’d still take two feet to the chest. And the counter move for the third kick requires the kicker to stand perfectly still with one leg out for a few seconds while you get set up.

Is that the tae-bo guy?

I like the bit near the beginning where the dark-skinned dude got hit with a roundhouse kick sideways to his shoulder, and a half-second later flew straight backwards into the wall. That’s the kind of kick I want to learn how to deliver. Maybe if I practiced with tree trunks…

So is there where Magiver got the idea for the Double Whammy of Doom? It didn’t seem to work in the movie.

BTW, if you like bad fight scenes, this is the baddest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxkr4wS7XqY&feature=related

It was King of the Kickboxers and the leading lady in that movie had a suspiciously deep voice.

Yeah, it’s Billy Banks.

Thank you. That’s the movie.

I haven’t laughed so hard at a fight scene since Jon Voight fought a CG dog.

Au contraire mon frere. I give you the supreme, 1980s ass-kicking majesty that is, Gymkata! The story of a gymnast who is also the son of a former special agent, who is called in to clean up a political mess a foreign land. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gTkUcXGF_Q

I bet he could take out a chimp with that move.
