(This could be a thread game, but I thought it belongs better in CS. Mods, please move this as needed, and thanks in advance.)
Hi! I thought this might be a fun exercise for us to do collectively! Can we complete the list of brief segments in the video compilation? I’m confident that we can!
This compilation on IG lasts about 90 seconds and it runs through about 96 or so small segments of scenes representing the 1980s. These are some iconic scenes.
Here’s the IG compilation ➜
As we Dopers all age more gracefully, I thought we could put our collective heads, memories, and experiences together to complete the list of all the segments. Some entries are challenging! My idea is this:
1] Watch the compilation. See what segments you can identify. Enjoy it!
2] Include the link for the IG Compilation. Then, copy & paste (or, C&P) the current list into your post, with your added entries. Or perhaps better, use the Reply & Quote feature, but if you do the R&Q, be sure to remove the Quote tags. Add at least one, and more if you can! I did an initial numbering for the list and started with some initial entries. Add yours with a C&P (or R&Q) and let’s grow the list to completion. After viewing the compilation once, I recognize several of them but already know that I don’t know all of them. I am 62, and was in my 20s in the 1980s. I joined the Marines in 1980 and shipped out to boot camp on 25 January 1980. The 80s were some good times.
Remember, the link for the IG Compilation should be at the beginning of each post’s list.
3] If you have a specific memory about any segment, share that. Name the segment, with its number, and then write about the memory that it conjures. Here’s an example, and this is a true, recent memory:
#2 Steve Martin and John Candy in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles — My wife and I just got back Sunday (like, 2 days ago) from a 2 week road trip. It was a great trip but in Moab, UT my Jeep overheated and blew a head gasket. Instead of driving home in our Jeep we ended up renting 4 different cars from different companies (don’t ask me, it’s a story), and then we flew home. When the Jeep is repaired we’ll fly back to drive it home. During those final days in Moab I couldn’t help but think of Steve Martin and John Candy in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. I love that movie!
That’s an example.
4] If you only have a memory to share without adding to the list, that’s fine. Please do so, but only if the clip is already in the list. If it’s not in the list, put it onto the list (C&P or R&Q as described above in rule 2) in the best way you can. But, I’m not looking for any and all 1980s memories, only those closely associated with segments in the original video compilation.
5] Feel free to share your current age, if you’d like to. But that’s not a requirement in this thread. Again, I am 62.
6] Feel free to correct / revise / append what you think is needed in our collective list, but please explain and please identify the original poster with the @ sign. A conversation may be needed.
7] Enjoy the process of reliving some 1980s memories! I hope they are good memories for you, but sad memories are also welcome. We’ve all probably had them, then. As the saying goes, “A joy shared is twice the joy. A sorrow shared is half the sorrow.”
8] Most importantly, have fun!
I think there are about 96 clips in the compilation. As our list fills in, our numbering will become more accurate. Don’t sweat it, just add to it and make it more accurate.
I already tried searching and did not find the answers that complete the list.
I think I’ve covered the basic rules. Let’s not overthink this. Do the best you can within the 8 rules. We will make this work!
Let’s do this! Ready, Dopers? GO!
