90s dance party

You’re at the club/a party/wedding reception on any given night in the 1990s. What gets you and your friends out on the dance floor? Only stipulation: the song has to be from the 90s. Second only stipulation: Let’s *not *copy and paste any “Top Dance Songs of the 1990s” list from Buzzfeed or VH1 or Billboard or whatever; let’s make this about you.

To kick things off: Tootsie Roll

No brainer: “What Is Love?” - ironic or not (anyone who watched SNL in the late '90s knows what I mean), it works.

Aah, early 90s - a lovely time for indie dance in the UK.
The Only Rhyme That Bites - 808 State w/MC Tunes
Ich Bin Ein Auslander - PWEI
Ebeneezer Goode The Shamen
Something Good - Utah Saints
Last Train to Trancentral KLF
Dub Be Good To Me Beats International

Warm everybody up with:

C+C Music Factory - Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)

Technotronic - This Beat Is Technotronic

Get those asses moving with:

The Chemical Brothers - Block Rockin’ Beats

Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up (NSFW original video)

The Crystal Method - Vapor Trail

Freestylers - Feel The Panic

Finish it off by blasting into the next decade with:

Micronaut - Ioncannon (I admit: I cheated with this one. BUT it’s a great artist, song & album that almost nobody has ever heard of, and I think the video I made is kinda cool, so I’m sharing it anyway.)

Groove is in the Heart - Dee Lite
Baby Got Back - Sir Mix a Lot
Whoomp! There It Is- Tag Team
Let Me Clear My Throat - DJ Kool
Gettin Jiggy With It - Will Smith
Thong Song - Sisqo

California Love.
Hypnotize.

Love Rollercoaster by the RHCPs. (A fun remake from the very 90s Beavis and Butthead movie.)

Marky Mark and the funky bunch Good Vibrations.

“The Only One I Know” by Charlatans UK. Very 90s psychedelic-dance; it was one of my favorite dance songs at the club I hung out in during college.

Oh, yeah! You’re twisting my melon, man…

Happy Mondays - Step On

House of Pain - Jump Around. No 90s dance party can go without it.

Vogue - Madonna
Steal My Sunshine - Len
I Wish - Skee-Lo
The Humpty Dance - Digital Underground

This came up in shuffle last night.

Two awesome choices. Also Movin’ On Up, Primal Scream

Scarred by Luke ft. Trick Daddy

Hoochie Mama by 2 Live Crew.

Then there was this local (to Detroit) guy, DJ Assault, known as one of the top ghettotech artists of the day. He had couple songs get popular in the mainstream college-kid clubs out in the burbs and across the bridge in Windsor. His song Ass N Titties never failed to fill a floor back in the day.

1993, Malibu night club, Lido Beach NY

You walk into the Guido Room: Corona - Rhythm of the Night
You walk into the Punk Room: LA Style - James Brown Is Dead

OK, it may have been late 1993, early 1994, but still…

Heh. My eye just caught one small piece of text from this post which was “across the bridge in Windsor”. In my neck of the woods that would be Eton College.

What, what. Banging tunes old chap, may one make a request to pump up the volume. Spiffing.

Carry on.

So was “Bums N Jubblies” the song that got all the college kids on the dance floor?

Well I was going to mention Word Up by Cameo (“put your hands in the air like you don’t care”) but I see now that it came out in 86 :frowning: Back to Life by Soul to Soul came out in 1989 but I think it didn’t reach the US til 1990 so at *my *90s dance party it counts.
