"99 Number" (like Social Security Number)?

While talking with some of my relatives about immigration, one of them mentioned something called a “99 Number”. It sounded like it was something similar to a Social Security Number, but perhaps used for immigration purposes (or in situations involving a U.S. immigrant).

Has anyone else here heard of a “99 Number”? My google-fu is weak today; I just can’t find any information on this.

Maybe I9? It’s a form that you fill our to verify that you have the legal right to work in the US.

Thanks for the quick reply, hajario. I was originally thinking the same thing (that maybe I misheard them, or they had misheard it), but I’ve found - what I believe to be - references to a 99 Number on a couple of websites.

Of course, I have no idea if the “99 number” referenced in these sites is the same as the one I’m looking for.

Looking more into the “99 number” mentioned on the Virginia website, I think they’re just referring to the DCJS ID mentioned earlier in the document.

So, it looks like I’ve only got the one [possible] reference so far, from the De Anza website.
