A Beary Special MMP

Hey Mika, I hope you get whatever it is resolved. At any rate, we’re all standing by if you need to vent.

It’s COMFORTABLE outside. Hallelujah! They say it’s only going to be in the 80s today. We shall see. I really, really hope they’re right.

I need to renew my CAC before Friday. Sigh…like I don’t have enough to do.

That’s all I’ve got for now. I need to do some work.

Hope it works out, Meeks. You know we’re all here for you.

Another day, another … let’s see, divide by 10, carry the two … 110 dollars, before taxes. Hey, don’t knock it - this is the most money I’ve ever had in my own account. Whoooo!

Drae. My good friend Drae. LET ME GO WITH YOU PLEASE OH PLEASE.

Taters, is that a CAC as in a CAC card? As in the new “security” system they have on Navy bases?

Pun? uPn? Stop confusing me.

come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with meeeee

Mika, hope it all gets better.

This morning my boss got an e-mail saying that I’m the best netowrk engineer on his staff and should get a raise.

My clients really should close thier mail programs and lock thier computers when not at thier desks.

**Spatsie ** - just be careful you don’t get too sloopy with the nautical puns

All right, here it is. Two things, now:

 1. We have been told that we must vacate the apartment by August 31st. Reason being? We’re consistently late with the lease documents. Ok, fair enough, it’s definitely our fault. But when I called her to reason with her she was absolutely adamant and wouldn’t even give us a break…just absolutely be gone by this date. So I’m all stressed out now about moving out and finding a new place quickly. And we’re paying a great rent and in a great location and all that happy jazz and it just seems like a really silly reason to lose us…we’re good tenants.
 2. There were Southwest Airlines tickets in my desk and now they’re gone. I didn’t steal them!!! (No one is blaming me, at least.) I’ve been in this job five years and dealt with thousands of dollars in cold hard cash and never lost a penny. This is the first time anything has ever gone missing on my watch. We’re tearing the office apart looking for them of course. I think they might be in the boss’s desk, and we are searching there next, soon as she gets off the phone.

But both these things had to come down within 24 hours of each other, didn’t they? Agh gah.

mika, whatever it is, we’re all here.

That’s what we’ve been mizzen!

:frowning: Sorry to hear that. Good luck trying to find a new place. Don’t overlook Troy. There are lots of nice places to live there. Not sure how expensive they are now, but I always wanted to live in the Quayside Apts down on River Street. They’re really cool converted loft types with hardwood floors and skylights (on the top floor obviously) and cool stuff like that. They weren’t too expensive when I considered them a few years ago. (But they didn’t allow cats so I didn’t go there.) Anyway, good luck.

So the embarrassing thing I did last night: I set dinner on fire. Yup, flames and smoke and all. I was broiling chicken and there was too much marinade left on the pan and the oil caught on fire. Neither Keith nor I panicked and the flames were contained quite quickly and the chicken was still edible in the end. But it was a bit embarrasing to set dinner on fire.

I think I finally figured out the problem I’ve been working on at work since Friday. Yay! Except I have no idea why it’s occurring or how to fix it. But it’s a start anyway.

Oddly enough, my problem last night was that I couldn’t start a fire. I really wanted a burger from the grill. Found the grill, the charcoal, and the Boy Scout firewater just fine;

But there were no matches to be found.

Mika, moving sucks, but 5 weeks is enough time to find a place and get into it. Is the lease up at the old one? If not, I’d tell the owner they’ll have to evict you because you’re not voluntarily walking out on it…

Spats, yes CAC stands for Common Access Card. We’ve been using them in DA for quite awhile now. We now have actually insert our cards in our work computers to use them, so this is a MUST have. Additionally, I must show the card to gain access to the installation I work on.

Meeks, best of luck on those two issues. I really hope you find the tickets and a place to live. Who knows? You may find a better place to live. One that you like more, etc.

Bobbio, see? We smokers are good for something. We always have matches or lighters. :stuck_out_tongue:

I see that FCM has not responded to me regarding my suggested boat names. I don’t see why not. They’re perfectly good names.

I can honestly say that I’ve never caught anything on fire while cooking it. Watch. Now that I’ve said that, I’ll crisp something up for sure.

yes, the lease is up. And actually I feel a hell of a lot better talking about it. I’m surprised…I tend to be the kind of person who generally doesn’t talk about current things bothering me. Perhaps I should more.

VBob - not since Superman.

Mika, that sucks. A lot. Like, a lot a lot. It sucks a log. What a stupid thing to get all in a tizzy over. I bet your landlady is going to regret this once she can’t find tenants as good as you are to replace you. And good luck finding the tickets.

Mast you be so critical? :stuck_out_tongue:

If it makes you feel better, we’ll get you a couch and all use bad German accents …

It’s a bitch, but you’ll survive. I’m one of those crazy people who actually thinks moving is fun. And as I said, we are all here to listen to you bitch a lot.

My personal moving tip–you can look at all the listings you want, but I’ve always had the best luck just calling the rental office at apartment complexes–sometimes you’ll find something that hasn’t been listed yet.

You guys are right. I’m thinking about this all in the wrong way. I’ve never been told to leave an apartment complex before! I can mark it off as another life experience, I suppose. After all, there’s only one way to learn most things, eh?

Well, even with all kinds of other shit going down in my life I’m not going to talk about that now. I’m going to continue on this weekend.

Saturday morning we woke at 7 AM and by 7:30 were in the car. Usually when we go fishing we’re out earlier but this time it was a different kind of fish that didn’t mind the sun.
So we were out there, and it was humid enough that standing knee-deep in the water felt pretty darn nice. Where we go there is a long strip of beach that is about 30 feet wide. On one side is the ocean, the other is a bay. It’s quite cool. So we’re standing on the ocean side for a long time, in the water, enjoying ourselves. Eventually we switched to the other side. The SO was the first to catch a fish. Soon I felt a brief tug, then more, then flailing! And as I reeled in my line and shouted I saw the silvery shape in the water, flailing around like crazy. I reeled up a lovely shiny fish. We measured him, under size, and I threw him back, gaining a spine in my finger for my pains.
Soon I caught another one that we kept. I named him Carl. We stayed for about three hours, but didn’t catch anything else.

In the afternoon we hit pet stores, both to find the last couple of things for Picante and just to enjoy the stores. Up here pet stores are predominantly cat or dog. Downstate, though, there’s tons of pet stores that are entirely reptile-oriented. Very cool. And we saw this really great bonsai shop, too.

Later that night his brother and pregnant SIL came over…and after dinner we went out to look at the stroller they wanted. And this really floored me. They want an $800 stroller. I don’t pay $800 in rent. And to be honest, I know they’re not rolling in it either; they are trying to save up for a house.

All the stuff they looked at was like that. Expensive rockers, cribs, strollers, swings, carseats…made me wonder how anyone could ever afford to have a baby at these prices. They have one advantage, though - the baby is the first one born of this generation in this family, born of the eldest boy, so they’ll probably get a lot of it as gifts. Still seemed very high to me.

After they left we watched The World is Not Enough…Pierce is my favorite Bond but that movie just sucks eggs, I’m afraid. Stockholm Syndrome and all.

Oh well.

uh oh, mast hysteria!

Thank Og you responded, rosie. I was beginning to fear I’d killed the MMP with my tales.

Hey everyone! Don’t stop having fun! Please?

:: throws confetti :: Don’t worry, the party’s still going strong! :slight_smile:

Knot to worry. We were just at launch. My guess is that landlady has a friend wanting your old apartment so she’s been waiting for the chance to dump you. Look at it this way…at least it’s not a mortgage foreclosure.
