A Bob Dylan Christmas

Yes, it’s true. Bob Dylan is putting out a Christmas album.

Christmas in the Heart

I’ll give you just a moment to wrap your heads around that concept.

It’s supposed to be a collection of standards, but one wonders …

Santa said Hermie go make me some toys
Hermie said “Man, stop makin’ that noise”
Santa said no, Hermie said what
Santa said you can do what you want
But the next time you see me you better run
Hermie said where you want these knick knacks done
Santa said out on Highway 61.

Now is the time for your tears.

*Well, if you go when the snowflakes storm,
When the rivers freeze and summer ends,
Please see if he’s wearing furs so warm,
To keep him from the howlin’ winds.

Please see for me if his beard hangs long,
If it rolls and flows all down his breast.
Please see for me if his belly is round,
That’s the way I remember him best.

I’m wonderin’ if he remembers me at all.
Many times I’ve often prayed
In the darkness when I’m bad,
In the brightness when I’m good.*

I could live a long and happy life without the album, but I an subscribing to this thread. Keep 'em coming!

Why should a Bob Dylan Christmas album seem so strange after this?

The toys, they are a-coming…

With Dylan and Tori Amos both releasing Christmas albums this year it’s looking like a really weird year for holiday music. Maybe next year we’ll finally get the A Very Radiohead Christmas I’ve been dreaming of.

Has anyone else heard the Dylan Sings Seuss songs? “Too Many Daves” is brilliant.

It’s called “Dylan Hears A Who”. But for the production values on a couple of numbers, it’s pretty spot on.

My copy is already pre-ordered.

I don’t know about other Dylan fans, but I take tremendous pleasure these days in finding out what new and bizarre things Dylan does.

Johnny’s in the basement wrapping up the presents
I’m on the pavement thinkin’ about the advent
Man in the red coat , bag out , bows off
Says I’ve been nice but now he’s gotta fly off

Anyone else look at the thread title and think of a really strange TV special?

*There must be no room at the inn here
Said the donkey to the sheep
There’s too many people
I can’t get me no sleep.

Carpenters they take my stall
A baby’s in my hay
Everyone is sayin’ that
Christ is born today

Outside in the cold distance
Angels began to sing
Three riders were approaching
And the bells began to ring.*

How much fruitcake must a man choke down
Before you call him a man?

I did a pretty good rendition of “Silent Night” sung as Dylan with my 6 string.

It’s the voice and nasal inflection and the emphasis on the last syllable.

Try it sometimes. You’ll be the hit of your office party!

A radio show I listen to played Bob Dylan reciting 'Twas The Night Before Christmas from this album. It was terrible. His voice was all raspy, and he sounded threatening. Any kid who listens to that would be thoroughly terrified.

… and your parodies are hilarious!:D:D:D

Q

It arrived yesterday and the first listen left me scratching my head. I’m giving it another shot as I type this. It’s growing on me. Must Be Santa might turn out to be my favorite track.

Sorry Bob, you know I love you, but this album is what you put on when you want your guests to LEAVE. So I guess it’s handy in that way.

I sing this song of Christmas
Make a nice or naughty list.
While I watch the snow that’s falling
And the carolers are calling.
People buying presents,
And getting drunk by the hour
Poisettia’s a red flower.
And Tannenbaums are green.

I got it today and I have to say… I like it! I was not expecting to, but I think it will find itself in rotation this Christmas season. It has a very classic vibe.

On a side note, have Dylan and Tom Waits ever sung a duet?
