A Boeing draws a Boeing

In a test flight, a Boeing followed a route that followed the outline of a Boeing

It may be my browser, but that link brings up a page with a bunch of data and no pix. There is a “play” arrow, which when clicked, causes all the data to update over time, but still no visible image of anything.

A different article, which includes a large static PNG of the complete flight track under discussion. And also pointing out that the flight test burned enough fuel to emit 300 metric tons of CO[sub]2[/sub], if that’s the kind of thing that worries you.

Boeing points out they had to fly an 18-hour endurance test regardless, so drawing out a portrait of the test aircraft was just a fun way to do a very necessary test. So the carbon dioxide was going to be emitted one way or another. It only looked frivolous.

So, a Boeing Boeing? It’s the Corey Doctorow signal!

This post has been updated with a comment from Boeing. Also, the original story mistakenly said the emissions from the flight were 300,000 metric tons, instead of 300,000 kg. We apologize for what was clearly not a rounding error.

That’s one hell of a rounding error.

What are the different colors signifying?

Pretty cool, scudsucker
This one’s a little more ‘loopy’; it’s the flight path of the TV camera feed relay aircraft (plural - 4 from the looks of the end of the video) from Stage 11 of this year’s Tour de France.
