Yet another pregnant Doper checking in here. I’m just over ten weeks along, with a due date of April 7.
So far, I’ve been fortunate enough to have very little morning sickness, but boy am I sleepy! I’ve taken to closing the door of my office and taking a nap in the afternoons.
This will be our first, so I’m pretty nervous. We’ve already acquired an impressive pregnancy book collection, but additional recommendations are always welcome. Based partially on an earlier thread here, I’m looking seriously into HypnoBirthing classes (I have the book, but not the tapes yet).
Advice, good wishes, and stories of your own pregancies all welcome!
Trust me you don’t want to hear my pregnancy stories! I’m having my second munchkin October 28.
Typically the sleepies subside a bit in the second trimester… then you’ll feel pretty darn good till the third trimester in which you’ll just feel big!
There must be something in the water as lots of us pregnant dopers are around all of a sudden (there was a serious dearth of pregnancy announcements for a while there)
I’m in my fourth month and while I’m not particularly energetic, that debilitating sleepiness of the first trimester has worn off. I can get through the day without a nap!
I just had an afp test this week, and should find out the results next week some time - I understand that this test generates a lot of false positives, but decided to do it anyway. I’d rather know.
I’m 35, so I had a CVS test and a session with a genetic counselor. It came back fine, and as a bonus, we knew in our 13th week that we were having a girl. It’s cool to know so early!
I’m so darn hungry all the time that it’s hard to eat healthy (though I am, for the most part - I gained a total of 12 or 13 pounds during the first trimester so I’m being extra careful). I have weird cravings, too. Right now I want brazil nuts. No other kind of nut, just brazil nuts. Go figure.
Best of luck and keep posting. I’ve checked the pregnancy boards at ivillage and babycenter, but MUCH prefer talking pregnancy with other Dopers.
Boy, you sound like me, cricket. I gained 5-10 pounds early (not sure exactly what I weighed when I conceived), but none for the past 3-4 weeks. But I want all kinds of food that’s not good for me, and I’m ravenous. In one of my few bouts of real nausea, it became clear to me that the only thing that would make it go away was salt-and-vinegar chips. It worked, too. The only thing that I can’t tolerate any more is coffee, which is probably just as well. As one of my friends said, “A newborn with a coffee jones can be pretty cranky!”
I’m also just 35, but my doctor didn’t suggest CVS. They do offer an amnio to all women 35 and over in the 18th week (I think) - I haven’t decided yet whether to do that.
I had my first appointment on Wednesday, and got to hear the heartbeat. It was almost exactly in sync with mine, three times faster: DUM-dum-dum-DUM-dum-dum. We’ve been calling it the baby waltz.
I had an amnio towards the end of my last pregnancy… they needed to make sure her lungs were ready before the induction… she kicked the needle right out of my belly!
I live for ultrasounds! We get them weekly now and will be measuring the behemoth again next wednesday. Make sure they print you lots of good pictures. Oh and stash a blank vcr tape in your bag when you go too… some places have vcrs where you can get a video of the baby in utero… we have one of the munchkin girl!
I won’t mention what I’ve gained… it is too depressing… but I have other problems that make fluid retention the bane of my existance. Yeah for the catheter that first 24 hours after surgery!!!
I was unfortunate enough to get stuck with major morning sickness for the first while… now it’s pretty much gone unless I get too little sleep, then I just feel icky until I sleep some more.
Sleeping is supposed to get better in the 2nd trimester? Darn… that doesn’t seem to be happening for me. My sleeping patterns are completely insane which makes it hard to do much of anything though I try.
My best reccomendation would be… hmm… eat what you want when you want though don’t overdo it. One friend who had her’s about 3 months ago was eaing so much she was HUGE she looked like she was having twins. The doc even told her not to eat so much! As long as you are eating reasonably healthy and the doc says nothing is wrong ignore the people who start giving advice and telling you that you are going about certain things completely wrong. (Like I was told I should be drinking 1L of milk a day by one lady… I wish… I was getting pretty ill from dairy products for a bit there and even if I could I can’t afford that much milk.)
Oh if you don’t mind I have a bit of a question myself… about when should I start Lamaze classes? I feel I have some time but I don’t want to put that off too long…
Lamaze… I think you usually take that in month 8… we took ours a little early last time as we were prepped for lots of bedrest and a preemie… I had the bedrest but she was only 3 weeks early so none of the preemie stuff happened (yay!)
Thats a lot of dairy especially if you are having problems with nausea! I say trust your doc and trust your instincts
Congrats to you and your little bun!
I have two little buns in my oven, and they’re expected to be done some time in February. My original due date was 2/24, but when the second bun was detected, the doctor said that would be moved up.
Hooray for babies!
