I’ve been known in other years to go to bed early and sleep through midnight, and to be online chatting with people at midnight.
Now, for a message board, the second might not be considered boring, but both aren’t really good NYE activities.

I cannot remember the last New Year’s Eve party I went to. Possibly sometime in the early 1990s. After that I had kids, and I still have 'em and I’m too old to consider the idea.
Eat dinner, hang out with my loved ones, watch a movie, smooch at midnight (if still awake), sleep, the end.
My husband will be singing with his band at a sold out show in a great music venue, as he does every year. Usually I dance all night long, get a little tipsy on good beer, and climb onstage at midnight to make out with him.
Today I am 36 weeks pregnant and 50% effaced. I will be making the recliner/kitchen/bathroom loop until I fall asleep, mostly likely around 830p. If I get really out of control, I might finish packing my hospital bag.
I do have two fancy cheeses to gorge on, which definitely qualifies as exciting these days.
It will be a normal, lights out at 9pm night here, except that we’re making a special dinner: homemade mac and cheese. We save it for special occasions. Really, after hosting Thanksgiving, a (small) party for my co-workers and Christmas dinner, I’m all celebrated out. The only other way I distinguished the day was to make scones for breakfast. I just had another. God, I love scones, but again, for a special occasion only. Good thing I already exercised today or I’d be doomed. As it is, I can veg out in the sunny armchair for a bit.
Last NYE party I went to was…2005 or 2006?
I had a New Year’s Eve lunch with a friend today, and took the dogs for a good off-leash hike along the lake. I am working tomorrow, so I plan on being asleep in bed about my normal time tonight, 10-10:30 pm.
2012 is still 7 hours away but I’m snuggled up in bed (on the living room floor) trying to decide if I feel healthy enough to play Star Trek Online with my boyfriend ( I gassed myself on exhaust fumes last night and exhaust fumes make me feel ill for days).
I’m hungry but queasy. I have a headache and I’m tired but I don’t want to sleep. I’m bored but don’t think I can handle the graphics of the game or focusing on reading a small print book.
I will probably spend the rest of 2011 waiting until it’s late enough to go back to sleep and wasting time online.
My 88-year-old mother and I will drink champagne and watch “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”, the movie that makes her laugh the most.
Just watched Fantasia with my housemate, had a drink, will probably go to bed a little after midnight.
I’m hoping the idiots living upstairs don’t decide to bring the party back home with them again. Ugh. It’s not looking promising- their mates have already spent some minutes standing outside, yelling their name rather than ringing the damn door bell. Hopefully the rain will keep them inside somewhere else.
Getting close to midnight right now in the dark wilderness of Northern Europe. I was just at the gym, doing a hour of strength training. Introduced a new lower back exercise to my program! Crazy exiting stuff! Now I’m having a salad. I think I’ll play some computer games, maybe watch a movie. I’m all alone and intend to keep it that way for at least a couple more days. I wish those damned neighbors would stop it with all the fireworks and noise, though.
And you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m as happy as a pig in clover.
I have the choice of watching Twilight Zone marathon, or going to some packed bar and staying out late.
It is 8.38 pm here. I will be unloading the dishwasher in a few minutes, then take a shower and wash my hair. Will channel surf to watch something in a marathon mode, then go to bed.
Ooops, forgot highlight of the evening. Eat a piece of pickled herring at midnight…
Hmmm…I’m watching season 3 of The West Wing for the first time. I don’t know if that qualifies as boring or not.
I just discovered The Closer last week, so I’ve been exploring various options for watching it online and on demand. So far today I’ve watched about a dozen episodes, and then I started reading some online discussions of the show going back to 2007. I still haven’t fully unpacked from my vacation last week, so I was thinking about maybe doing that, but probably not.
I also came to the SDMB to post my Death Pool picks (yay! I remembered in time) and have been hanging out here ever since.
Well, my fun was earlier, I went to see War Horse & out to late lunch with a friend. As of now, I am at home alone with the critters; just made a ginormous tequila sunrise & 3 kinds of Bisquick snacks- this is something I have done for many, many years. As soon as the last cookie sheet comes out of the oven I am gona put on A Knight’s Tale and veg. Hopefully I’ll make it till midnight…
iTunes will be cranked up until about 10:30pm, then somewhat quieter until I decide to go to bed somewhere between there and midnight. Unless I decide to watch one of the last two Harry Potter movies on Blue-Ray, since I just got those. My first BR movies on a BR player I got from my sister two months ago and have never fired up.
I’m playing a little Civ-2, doing a little surfing, a little bit of posting here, a little bit of puttering around…
and that’s about it.
What can I say. I’m a boring fellow.
9:38 here. Zyada and I spent most of our afternoon and evening cleaning our stove and the counter space around it. Why? Because a damn squirrel got down the vent pipe above the stove. I had heard scratching and rattling yesterday, then it stopped and I figured the squirrel had managed to climb out. But no. I heard it again last night…
We decided it was time to take down the filter and see. We set up stepladders and I got a trash bag, and we reached in to unscrew the screen. It dropped perfectly into the bag. Then Zyada let out a screech - half a squirrel was hanging out of the opening and waving its hind legs at us. We got the bag back up, and I finally managed to dislodge the beast and throw the bag outside. I went out later to get the filter and we got it back in place, just in case that squirrel has friends who come looking for it.
So that was more excitement than enough for the season. As I said, we cleaned up everything within range, and NYE, we rest!
11:09
I’m watching the Anderson Cooper New Year’s program. My mother threw a truly epic drama fit this evening, so I’m watching it by myself. Prior to sitting down, I opened two pomegranates (tasty but messy). Later on I’ll head back to the kitchen to clean the stove (some potatoes boiled over – part of the drama) and scrub a large pan that didn’t quite come clean in the dishwasher.
Supervising (25) 15 year olds, bitching about employees, bored out of my mind. Hubby is already asleep on the couch.
But we had absolutely beautiful snow earlier-big soft flakes slowly falling.
I’ve been watching old episodes of Criminal Minds on my laptop all day. I went downstairs for 5 minutes to watch the ball drop. We have a family tradition of sitting on the couch insulting the TV programming from Times Square. At 12:01 we all went back upstairs.
On the other hand, the programming didn’t disappoint. In that 5-minute span, the first channel we checked started playing “Imagine,” the next channel was country music, and the third Justin Bieber. Bad omen.
Oh, you should have stuck around for “Imagine”…Cee Lo Green didn’t have the balls to sing “no religion too”. Also, Cee Lo Green cannot sing.
Did you get to see Kathy Griffin strip down to her underwear?
