A challenge to my fellow Dopers: the most boring New Year's Eve.

It is now 9:33 PM on NYE in Sydney. I am at home. I have a load of washing on (I’ve been wearing the same pair of jeans on and off for weeks). No TV on, listening to music though. Just heard the first fireworks of the night and realized most people are out partying. I think I’ll do some housework so I can add the “I did housework on New Year’s Eve” story to the old favorite “I had baked beans on toast for Christmas dinner” story.

Anyone got a NYE more boring than doing the washing while listening to music.

I won’t really do any housework but that’s what I’ll tell people.

I did once really, due to circumstances, have baked beans on toast for Christmas dinner

I’m at work. On a 12 hour shift. I finish at 19:00. And I’ve to be at work at 07:00 tomorrow, which means an 05:30 start. So it will be an early night for me. When I get home, I’ll make myself some supper, then unpack a box or two, then go to bed.

Recently moved, or something weirder?

I have 4 1/2 hours until midnight.

I am having a beer and playing Civilization. And losing.

There is not a sound in the neighbourhood.

Don’t Ask, I’m right above you here in Brisbane. My children are out, I had popcorn for dinner (it was burnt and too salty) and watched a movie called Mister Lonely. I thought I might put away the Christmas decorations, then I thought, nah.

I watched Captain America. Didn’t have any dinner, though snacked on some potato chips. Considering heading to bed before midnight even ticks over, though I’m all hot and sticky from the humid temperature.

I may have to disqualify myself, I am 10 minutes into Water For Elephants and it looks pretty good.

I will be creating network and application accounts for users at my place of employment. Maybe taking a couple calls for weekend/holiday shift workers who do not remember their passwords.

It’s really just another night at the office. I’m not even anywhere that I will be able to hear fireworks.

Not long in from doing an evening shift and I have to be up at 5:00 to do a morning shift. I’m just wasting valuable sleeping time sitting here waiting for midnight. Two minutes to go…

2012 now - feels so 2009.

jabiru = health care professional. No other industry would roster shifts like that.

I was reading this https://github.com/jwise/28c3-doctorow/blob/master/transcript.md when I was interrupted by some annoying banging noises. Took about two minutes to sink in what the hell they were.

I moved 2 weeks ago. The moving guys were late. Then I immediately went on a night shift, then I had a bad cold, and then it was Christmas. I’ve barely started unpacking!

I’ve got over 15 hours till midnight, and I expect I’ll be sleeping by then, thanks to my idiot dog waking me at 4 and again at 8 this morning. Our plans tonight are same as the last decade or so - TV till we’re sleepy, then bed. In fact, that was the plan last night… and the night before. I’ll probably knit in front of the TV again, fighting off the cats as they bat at the yarn.

Oh yes, another thrilling evening at FairyChatEstates!

Today will be like pretty much any weekend day for me - do some chores, play with the kid, go to sleep well before midnight. Can’t remember when I’ve last been awake when one year turned into the next.

I’m dearly hoping for a boring New Year’s Eve. I live in Texas, where nothing says “fun” like drunk people firing guns. I’ll probably spend New Year’s Eve the same way as I have in the past: hoping to start the new year without a bullet wound.

I’m working in the studio, tracking guitars for a last minute project over deadline (and budget)

their money, their problem…but no fun hijinks for me. The best case scenario is the guitarist and bassist get their parts cut asap and I can spend the evening running stems through the console/tape machine. If I’m lucky, I won’t have to re-calibrate the tape machine and it won’t spew piles of tape 6:49 into a 7:00 tune…

normally I love my work, but no assistant (he’s partying and the label won’t pay for 2 eng @ double time)

It’s still early afternoon here, but I’ve spent the morning taking down the Christmas decorations and giving the house a good clean. I’m getting ready to go to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription, then go by Trader Joes to get a couple things (will probably be a madhouse). My husband took the kids to a basketball game, so I’ll spend the evening reading and making myself some dinner, then maybe some knitting in front of the tv. This all sounds terribly boring, but it’s actually my kind of day. Plus, it’s absolutely beautiful outside, so I have all the windows open and the birds are singing.

We plan to have a fondue later, probably crap out around 10:00, then lie awake listening to the morons blowing shit up, which will go on for the next few weeks to a lesser extent. My least favorite celebrations: July 4th and NYE.

I’m cleaning a little, and might watch TV later.

that’s about it.

I’ll be sitting here with the dog and cats playing Sims 2. My seven year old will be here but probably asleep by the time the ball drops. I may be too, but I doubt it.
