A Christmas Eve Birthday (or the Chinettes turn 5!)

Hard to believe 5 years ago today I was posting from my pda about Christmas Eve Twins For China Guy: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=293583&highlight=china

Fast forward and we had a great night tonight with friends and family over. Highlight was the 30 helium filled ballons. Both Audrey and Serena were so excited with the ballons they didn’t even figure out they had presents coming. We had BBQ (China Wife makes a great sauce with a base of soy saunce and honey) and I did my usual grill duty. We also had Shanghai Hairy Crab and about 20 other dishes.

The Paulaner Brauhaus outdid themselves with chocolate mousse cake for Serena and cheese cake with strawberries for Audrey (and they upgraded us for an 8" instead of a 6" cheesecake for free).

Audrey is off the charts for just about everything (including her temper). She is quite bilingual and the teachers think Audrey is brilliant.

Serena has challenges, continues to make progress and probably falls somewhere in the 2-3 year old range for most things. While bilingual, Serena has only 100+ word vocab and sometimes can get up to a 4 word sentence.

Thus, China Guy for the first time since 1982 will be hanging up his chopsticks and relocating the whole family to the Seattle area sometime in the next few months. I’m interviewing internally for positions and should have something soon. We’ll find the right school with a special needs program, buy a house in the neighboorhood, I’ll be a corporate drone, and we’ll embrace the whole American suburban adventure.

Apologies to all the well wishers and those sending PM’s with offers to help 5 years ago. I never thanked y’all properly for keeping me sane nor do I think I’ve done an update since then. It’s hard taking care of three bambinas and harder to embrace have a beautiful child with special needs.

Wish you all a Merry Christmas!

Good luck with your impending move, and happy birthday to the ladies!

Those of us with December birthdays know what the Three Wise Men said to Jesus: “Now, this is both for your birthday and Christmas.”

Hugs to the Chinettes!

Pictures please!

Happy Birthdays and many more to your girls!

I second elbows! I believe birthday party photos are in order. I’ve never seen Hairy Crab! :stuck_out_tongue:

Happy birthday to the Chinettes and family!

I love those names.

Happy Birthday, Chinettes!

I can’t believe it’s been 5 years! I remember cheering Serena on. Glad to hear they’re doing well.

Good luck with the impending move. And yes, we’d love to see pictures of all the Chinettes.
