A comment on the Zenster pit thread

It seems to me that a line has been crossed.

It’s one thing to pit a person for board behavior. The “Zenster is a fuckwit” thread started off that way. I had no problem with the OP – without commenting on whether it was justifiable.

It’s another thing to drag in personal anecdotes about off-board “real-life” meetings, for use in a character assassination on the SDMB. This strikes me as below-the-belt.

If I attend a Dopefest, or develop a personal off-board relationship with Dopers, and some people don’t like me, well, fine. Trash me among yourselves, or in your LiveJournal, or in email to each other, or in email to me, or to my face.

Please don’t Pit me because of anything I did or said off the boards. If I’m ever pitted I hope it’s because of something I said here on the boards, NOT for something I did off the boards.

The whole Zenster thread has left me with a very bad taste in my mouth. I’m sorry I posted in it at all. Anyone with me?

I agree with you - I think that bringing off the board personal relationships, whether good or bad, as ammunition in a pit thread is a bad idea. I agree that if I ever get pitted for shit I did on the boards (and that is the only reason anyone here should get pitted), that people don’t start dragging what I do off the boards into the thread.

I agree that the thread got really ugly.

I kind of think this thread may end up in the Pit, though.

FWIW, I agree, and I sincerely regret that I posted what I did. I don’t know that a new thread was needed to discuss this, though.

I kind of think, with all the BS going on that this thread be recognized and closed. I wont put my word in that thread and I kinda think that masonite needs to do what alice is considering, a break.

Look, I got pissy in my own thread last week…the one about wishing my cat to have prayers for death. I admit I was in the wrong, while I had some raw emotions, but this thread here, just pushes the issue about Zen’s pit thread to a level I think that should be halted. It’s not personal, it’s just plain dragging it out.

There are many of us dealing with issues; economic, war related, or just general complaining about life. However, bringing this over to MPSIMS is really not a good idea. It should remain in the thread it inspired.

Look, I haven’t been the most upstanding SDMB poster in my life on here, I admit that but there’s a point where Pit threads should remain in the Pit.

If you need a break from the SDMB like you said in that other thread, I recommend it then. Digging your own grave can really suck, been there and done that.

So from here on out I ask, as a member, not a mod, that people try as hard as they can to keep Pit thread issues right there. But dragging out the contents of another thread here just kinda sucks.

If that’s not working then a break from here is the best thing you can do and the mods/admins can help you stay away from posting if you are a post whore like me…they will disable your posting privis for a while if you ask. >

Well, I apologize if this thread is offensive. It seems the Pit thread is raging unchecked, and I started this one to counter it. It certainly isn’t meant to disparage anyone, just to comment on the “keep off-boards stuff off-boards” issue.

Mods, you certainly have my permission to close this thread, if need be, but most of my threads die quickly anyway. As you will.

masonite your thread isn’t offensive, it’s just repeating a Pit thread. What makes it poopy is that had you said something like alice did, not making direct contact with it, it’s just easier for people like me (and there are few like me) to understand.

Yes, you have a problem with the thread you posted about in your OP, I think there are more that agree with that than disagree but sometimes, it’s easier to just say, “Hey, I need a break, there are some things here that I am not agreeing with so I hope you all are able to come to some agreement.” Or some sort of bullshit like that.

Lord knows I am not good at that and have been the queen of over-dramatization (is that even a word?) when it comes to things like that. I don’t think, however I have done that since 2001. I would have to go through my posts and frankly I want to leave my past in my past, so to speak.

Anyhow, I think a more generic approach would have been more accepting, at least by me. Crap, I have to approve things, right? :wink:

No hard feelings I hope, just wanted to touch upon a few things I think (yes think) I have learned in the past here.

FWIW, I don’t think this thread repeats so much as buttresses. It appears to be discussing a certain aspect of the Pit thread but in such a way as to not become the same type of thread, i.e. nasty. That’s probably why it’s here, in this forum.

I haven’t been to that other thread and have no intention to do so; therefore I might be wrong here.

I did place this thread here to avoid nastiness, but I don’t believe I succeeded in avoiding redundancy. Can I request that further discussion be directed to the thread linked above? That one is somewhat civil so far. :slight_smile:
