A Compendium of Fictional Malediction

I’m currently reading the comic series L.E.G.I.O.N. '89, and the fact that sometimes every other word out of Gerryn Bek’s mouth seems to be Grok - either alone, or in the compound phrase ‘Grok-Bokker’, which is now my favourite insult - got me to thinking about the fictional obscenities and profanities in science fiction and fantasy - particularly comic books and television, which made me decide to build a list of the things - and, hey, the SDMB is always fun for help with this.

This list is off the top of my head…

L.E.G.I.O.N. ('89-R.E.B.E.L.S.'94):

Grok
Grok-Bokker
Feetal’s Giz(zard)

Legion of Superheroes:

(Sacred/Bloody) Liberty
Nykx
Grife
Sprock
Nass
Nass-Head

Farscape:

Frell
Dren

Battlestar Galactica:

Frak
Felgercarb (or is it Feldercarb?)

Firefly:

Gorram

Elfquest:

Puckernuts

Totally forgot Red Dwarf, >_>

So…Red Dwarf:

Smeg
Smeg-head
Gimboid

Yes?
You forgot “goit”.

Yes I did. adds it to the list

Another I just remembered…

Larry Niven’s Known Space:

Tanj

(This is also my one bump before letting the thread die. snif)

A couple of non-canonical Klingon curses (from the novel The Final Reflection) that I’ve found incorporated into my own vocabulary are g’dyaht (substitute for “damn” or “goddamn”) and kest (substitute for “fuck”).

Funny, I even participated in that one. >_>

Ah, well, that does help my list, and if we can come up with more we can continue the idea here, anyhow.

Shazbot

From the Sten series : “Drakh”, meaning excrement.

From the Spellsong Cycle : “Dissonance”, as in to opposite of Harmony.

From the Pern books : “Shards”, referring to broken eggs possibly.

Also from the Sten series : “By my mother’s beard” and “By my fathers frozen buttocks”, along with “Your mother had no beard and your father had no buttocks”. These are from the Bhorr, basically alien Vikings/traders.

From Sheepfarmer’s Daughter : “Pargsli spakin i tokko”; it means “Jacks-hole full of soured witches’ milk”.

Those are just bloody beautiful.

The Bhorr are fun characters.
