Well, both hubby and I are trying to lose weight, so we decided to tap into our competitive natures. We drew up a contract, signed it, and even had my mother notarize it (she is a public notary). In case any of my fellow Dopers would benifit from it, here is a copy (names edited, of course).
We decided to hit where it hurts, ie our wallets
Since money is tight, we figured that it would be a good motivator!
Curious, how tall are you both, and what are your builds? 180 sounds right for a guy ~5’11 - 6’2, but 116 is low for a girl, unless you’re only 5’2 or so.
30 pounds is a lot to lose in 3 months, so I hope ya’ll are going about it in a healthy way. But that’s a great idea to turn it into a competition. I wonder: is sabotage forbidden? You know, stick an extra Ho-Ho or three into hubby’s lunch every day, or stir some Crisco into his no-cal oatmeal. All’s fair in love, war, and dieting!
How does money help this bet? It’s all community property? If my wife paid down my credit card, that’s just less money for her to pay our health insurance and grocery bill.
The reason we chose money (and his credit card) is this card is nearly $300 over the limit, and accumulating more fees, etc., every month. And it all began before we were married. So we figured that the most benificial move would be to get that debt knocked down to a more manageable level. If my credit card were in such sad shape, we would have chosen it, or medical bills, etc… Basically, whatever was going to do the most good for the both of us while costing us the most money at the same time
And he’s the one the decided he had to lose 30 lbs… I was going to let him off with 20…
Thanks for the tip, AHunter
Now I have to decide if I want him to win too… that trip looks awfully fun, but the logical side of me wants that debt down…
