Someone mentiioned Randy Jackson from American Idol having once been a member of the group Journey. Shall I conclude from this that the American Idol judge is not one of Michael Jackson’s siblings? Or is he simply the sibling who has branched out the most?

You’re mistaken. Randy wasn’t an original Jackson 5 member. He replaced Jermaine when the band moved to CBS (Jermaine, who was married to Berry Gordy’s daughter, stayed with Motown) in 1975.

All I’ve heard is that it was a surgery he had as a young child. And of course that the doctors said that he’d probably never be able to talk, let alone sing.
You’re mistaken as well. Actually, American Idol Randy Jackson was not in the Jackson 5, and is not related to Michael Jackson. This was another Randy Jackson who was a brother of Michael’s.
However, American Idol Randy Jackson is cousins with Samuel L. Jackson.

This is the Randy Jackson who is one of the Jackson Five siblings. The entire lot are: Rebbie Jackson DOB: 29 May 1950), Jackie Jackson (4 May 1951), Tito Jackson (15 October 1953), Jermaine Jackson (11 December 1954), LaToya Jackson (29 May 1956), Marlon Jackson (12 March 1957), Michael Jackson (29 August 1958), Randy Jackson (29 October 1961) and Janet Jackson (16 May 1966).
