Bangladesh recently became a test-playing nation (the highest level of cricket) but has yet to win any tests. They tend to lose heavily to other countries.
While Canada’s win is an upset, you’re right in thinking its not like beating the World champions. You’ll have to wait for Canada to beat Australia on 20 February to say that…
Well NZ plays the West Indies tonight, if we lose we’re pretty much out.
Think “Australia beats Belarus at Ice Hockey”. A nation that no-one knew had a team beat a nation that’s known but not competitive at the top level.
The Indians weren’t exactly dominating, were they? They’re living up to their reputation as koalas - no good on the road. I wonder if they didn’t kick in the turbos because of the strength of the opposition, but that’s usually the sign of a team that’s going to come unstuck.
…heesh, Adams just got another one. My brother calls him a freak, I call him lucky. He either gets a wicket, hits a six, gets out for a duck, or goes for plenty. 46/4 at the moment…go the Black Caps!
Shane Warne has been charged with the more serious of the two drug charges the ACB could level at him, and is likely to be suspended for at least a year, possibly two.
No comments from Warne yet, but he’s said to be “shocked”. Apparently the more serious charge was levelled on the grounds that he wasn’t using a drug on a doctor’s advice or for any other good reason - he’s said he wasn’t doing it to help heal his injury, and the pill was prescribed to his mother, not to him.
This is excellent news. Even if he didn’t take the drug in order to gain an advantage, or to mask another (and he probably didn’t - I feel he’s more a moron than a cheat), he took a prohibited substance he had no reason to take and deserves to be punished severely. Letting him off with a minor charge would have showed that the ACB is a soft touch, and for their own credibility they can’t afford to do that.
Tonight’s TV - a choice between Sri Lanka/Bangladesh and Rage’s broadcast of JJJ’s Hottest 100. My brain’s already hurting from the mental channel-flicking.
Just turned on the TV. Saw that Bangladesh were 0/3 off three balls, so I flicked over to the news.
THEN I remembered that this telecast is showing the scores in reverse order (runs/wickets). I flicked back. A hat-trick of the first three balls of the innings? What the hell?
Geez, that’s another one gone as I type this. Four wickets in the first over!
I’d heard that Bangladesh was supposed to be improving, and was expected to give a couple of competitive teams a run for their money this time around. Canada could have been written off as an aberration, but four wickets in the first freaking over?
Maybe I’ll get to watch the whole game before the Hottest 100 comes on after all…
Poor old Bangladesh goes from bad to worse. Put in to bat by Sri Lanka and Chaminda Vaas has taken a hattrick in the first three balls of the innings! He then got smashed for four, bowled a wide and got yet another wicket.
Can anyone remember any team getting off to such a bad start?
Bangladesh will be lucky to get fifty if this is anything to go by…
Well, the Banglas scored 124 all out, four more than their total against Canada. Can we deduce from this that Austin Codrington is a better bowler than Murali?
Actually, I think it would be fun to try to think of teams that Bangladesh might be capable of beating: All Vanuatu, New South Wales Women’s 2nd XI, Lancashire Cricket Conference All-Stars (blindfolded), England.
