I wasn’t specifying Bond as a medium pacer - I was just putting that down as a classification in response to your question of what a strike bowler is.
And pace alone doesn’t necessarily make a strike bowler. A couple of years ago Lee wouldn’t have been considered one. There are a number of factors involved, and of the (admittedly little) I’ve seen of Bond, I don’t think he has them all - yet, anyway.
They’re away from home. Indian pitches are slow and flat. They do very well there. Foreign pitches are very different. They don’t do very well there. South African pitches are quick and bouncy, which mean that the ball comes on to the bat much more quickly and can be harder to pick.
They’re out of confidence, after a poor tour of New Zealand, and couldn’t prove themselves in two games so far in South Africa. Loss of confidence can become self-proving.
They’re trying to play in a style they may not be suited to. They appear to need some time to play in, which they’re not giving themselves.
Well, the Windies just got very unlucky with the rain against the Banglas. That will seriously damage their chances of making the Super Six. Why weren’t there any provisions for rain dates in this World Cup, as there have been for previous Cups?
This might be used as an argument against minnows playing in the Cup in future years…the more minnows, the greater chance of a rain-ruined match between a minnow and a big country skewing the table. Not good.
Today’s Sydney Morning Herald is claiming that Shane Warne’s drug test shows him to have taken much more than the one tablet he claimed he did. The ASDA is now going through his entire past test history to see if they can see anything in a pattern of past results.
Looks like his career is over.
And Duke, for the record Bangladesh is considered to be a full, test-playing member of the ICC. With Kenya and England, they’ve got every right to be in the World Cup. The teams that people have been arguing against are the teams like Holland (why aren’t they playing as the Netherlands?), Canada and Namibia who are only associate members.
In my opinion it’s good for these smaller teams to get World Cup experience, and I think that there should be irregular tours made by stronger teams on a more regular basis - the only way you can raise a profile and improve skills is by playing the stronger sides and getting the experience that comes from that, even if you have to get beaten to do it.
How will ASDA deduce anything from his past performances? What kind of drug can improve a bowler? It’s very sad to see Warne go out like this, he was one of the game’s biggest characters. Now he’ll be remembered as the first drugs cheat.
I seem to remember there was some controversy when the ICC announced there wouldn’t be any reserve days in the first round. They claimed it was just too difficult to organise any.
The weather’s already played a big part in Pool B, yet somehow Pool A remains unaffected.
As for the minnows, I agree with BigNik. They add to the colour of the tournament and in a few years may become decent sides. Look at how far Sri Lanka have come since the eighties.
I think they’re looking to see if there’s any trace evidence of masking drugs or other things that might have been passed over as not present in sufficient quantities to ring alarm bells at the time. They could also be looking at things like changes in hormone levels and so forth.
Well, he’s always had a weight problem, so anything that might knock off body fat would be a start. Also anything that could improve endurance or allow him to recover quickly from injury. Finally, strength never hurts when you’re batting, especially if you’ve got a reputation as a bit of a slogger. Finally, you might add downers into the mix if they helped you concentrate.
He’s not the first - there have been a couple of players receiving minor bans because they didn’t know that what their doctor prescribed was on the banned list. Warne’s just the first that doesn’t have that defence.
I agree that it’s unfortunate, but if he broke the rules he has to take the consequences. If his vanity took pushed him too far, he’s got no-one to blame but himself.
Of course, if they were to find that he was trying to cheat, then he deserves everything he gets and his corpse can twist in the wind.
I wonder if they are like the Australian Jockey Club, who keep frozen samples from any suspicous results for decades in case a test is discovered for a previously undetectable drug?
Anyway Warnie should just say his mum provided his sample for him.
have to say, austraila is gonna spank holland tomorow
even the Dutch captain has hypothesised of aust getting over 400(in doing so breaking the record currently held by sri lanka of 398)
i just hope australia dont bowl first
the match will be over in half the time if not less.
the dutch had to recruit bowling machines in order to try and replicate speeds approaching that off brett lee.
aktar showed they were no match for pace, and akram for guile
I say, will get close but fail.
As for Sri Lanka’s recent performances, they’re fine and dandy. But hardly representative of what’s gonna happen later on.
OK…not to sound like an idiot but just how the hell do u pay cricket? As a clueless observer,it looks really stupid.Maybe if i learned the rules it would be a bit sexier. Can anyone break it down for me?
