Not even a tiny bit. Went to a doctor’s appointment where all support staff-- I mean ALL OF THEM, were women. Receptionist, scribe (that’s a new thing and kind of good), nurse, billers, scheduler, technician, bloodletter-- all were women and all were at work.
A female Prime Minister and 338 Canadian women didn’t show up for whatever it was they otherwise would have been doing on International Women’s Day.
Instead, they displaced the benchers and sat, and spoke, in our House of Commons for the day, along with the present leaders of all the parties.
“So we had some stationery printed and on the top of that stationery it said Prime Minister / Premiere Ministre [rather than le Premiere Ministre]. Now, I wasn’t in office very long so I didn’t get to use all the stationery. And I think that somewhere in the Langevin Block, perhaps in an old stationery cupboard, there is a box of stationery waiting for somebody. I hope one of you will use it.”
I hope so too.
We have a housekeeping company that comes biweekly, and their day fell on the day without immigrants, so they were no-shows. The manager told us that he had emailed us beforehand, but we never got one. No big deal; they came the next week instead, and that actually worked better since my wife’s family was visiting that weekend.
I told our nanny that she was welcome to take the day for the women’s march, but she was not interested.
I oversee a weekly conference call on one of my cases at work on Wednesdays, and since two women participants were out, I called it off except for one side issue that involved only a sub-group that was all present.
On the “Day Without Immigrants”, I had painstakingly put together a lunch order and placed the order with DoorDash, only to have everything go pear-shaped when DoorDash got to the restaurant to find out it had closed its doors that day. My boss was pissed off, and wanted to blame me, but couldn’t find a way to do so.
I work in the perioperative department in a hospital. On the Day Without Immigrants, the combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell in the food court was closed. On the Day Without Women, I didn’t notice anyone not being there. I (a male) wore a red (well, closer to burgundy) T-shirt under my scrubs, but I think that’s frowned upon for OR staff.
I didn’t notice anything unusual those days. So usual as a matter of fact I can’t quite remember when those days were supposed to be.
I can’t wait till day without a man day. I’m hoping we can schedule it for a Tuesday on a three day weekend.
Just about nothing was affected.
Back in the 80s, we had a Day Without Gays. Since so many were still closeted back then, nobody noticed the few who stayed home.
Other than the multiple days of breathless coverage by the liberal media, I did not notice any human being doing anything differently from normal on either the “day without immigrants” or the “day without women”.
I’m waiting for the Day Without Assholes, but that would probably get as much of a response as the other Days Without.
Just wait until the Day Without Breathless Coverage. You’ll notice the difference then.
Probably didn’t help that they make up between 1% - 2% of the population.
Too bad for you, international men’s day falls on a Sunday this year; November 19th.
