A Decade in Memoriam: It is Interesting to See Certain Dopers Grow

This is memorial day weekend in the U.S. and it also happens to be my 10 year anniversary on the Dope. I wanted to take a moment to recognize Dopers that have grown over the years. I have seen a number of them grow up, get better educated, and gain more life experience. Why, it only seems like yesterday…

The two that come to mind are Wesley Clark and Even Sven. Both of them came in a little young and misguided but blossomed into full-fledged, very interesting Dopers that can hang with the best of them in terms of knowledge and experience. I don’t always agree with their views but they did gain my utmost respect from their writing.

The spirit of this thread is meant to be positive only so please keep it that way. Are there any other positive changes you have seen from other Dopers over the years?

Well, there are all the posters who went from being lowly Members to respected and feared Moderators…

Second the vote on even sven. I’ve said before that I greatly admire her journey, bith on the boards and in real life.

Yep.

This is going to sound patronizing and isn’t meant to, but I was just talking to Brainiac4 about msmith - who used to come across far too often as a misogynistic know it all who didn’t give credit to anyone else on the boards for knowing a darn thing about “how business works.” And now has a girlfriend he respects and a touch of humility. Both great improvements.

I don’t want to toot my own horn or anything, but I look at some of my earlier posts and threads and then what I post now and I can see how I’ve matured. I’ve got one rather embarrassing thread where I cringe whenever I think about it, but it turned out to be caused by a huge mood swing from accidentally taking the wrong dosage of an anti-depressant.

Wow I’ve never looked back at my old posts. I have changed a lot. I was so damned perky. Seems like another person to me.

I was a cute single 30 year old Christian secretary with a little girl so I guess I really was a different person.

What happened to that andrewdt guy and the smart (or something?) kid?

Also what happened more recently to Curtis LeMay?]

Edit: Not that anything any of them did deserves any credit, but because I just don’t know what happened to them. Maybe it does now.

Although, if I had to nominate my favourite poster it would be Giraffe. But it’s not as though he’s changed as far as I’ve noticed.

It was rewarding watching DoctorJ develop from medical student to full-fledged attending physician. Ditto USCdiver.

Quite.

Well, at least the Moderator part.

Congrats on your tenth, Shagnasty.
