A Doonesbury question

The current storyline in Doonesbury is about a Iraqi man who wants to marry Honey Huan to gain American citizenship. Now I remember that Honey started out way back when as a citizen of the People’s Republic of China. Was there a story arc I missed where she became an American citizen or is this just one of the things that Trudeau let slide over the years?

Yes, I know it’s just a comic strip. Humor me.

I don’t recall it myself, but apparently, she was married to Duke at one point, which I assume gave her citizenship.

Donald Trump was involved, for the publicity, because Duke was the captain of his yacht at the time. Honey was convinced the marriage was for love. (She is a truly bizarre character.)

She is a truly bizarre character. Thing is, Trudeau has captured her pretty well, and if anyone is familiar with some of the first Chinese to go abroad with the western opening, she’s pretty close to one of the stereotypical types. Wierd it is.

Just a reminder, because it’s been discussed before on this board, you cannot become an American citizen by marrying one. You can use marriage to establish residency, which is only one of many conditions required for citizenship. Which doesn’t mean that Honey is not a U.S. citizen, only that her marriage alone would not be sufficient.

Doonesbury.com doesn’t say anything about Honey being a U.S. citizen.
