A female friend of mine want to know about doing adult webcam shows

A friend of mine who is going through some tough economic times (husband laid off, kid going to expensive college), and I were talking the other day about how some women are making bank doing webcam shows from their bedrooms, and she was very intrigued. I told her I would see what the scoop was re doing this and get back to her.

She is in her late 30’s, but is very curvy (not fat). She put herself through college doing exotic dancing in her youth, so she is not unfamiliar with the process of male enticement.

How much do webcams performers make? What is involved in being a webcam performer?

I don’t have any advice but I foundthis articlethat has some good info. Link is safe for work.

I can’t answer any of the questions either, but tell her if she needs to practice just let me know!

(happy to be of service…)

I don’t know much about it, butDan Savage had some good advice in a recent podcast - I think it was episode 165. Basically amounted to being aware that anything you did online could be recorded/used/posted elsewhere without your knowledge or permission, and may have repercussions for your life in the future etc. May be worth her having a listen.

It sounded like the woman in that episode made decent money and got turned on doing it – but it is true that, even with a wig and fake name anyone can take screen shots or videotape whatever she does (and, potentially, re-sell it).

How would she advertise her site? She might have to make deals with some unsavory porn aggregators.

There’s a fairly low-cost and low-risk way of doing this – what it pays depends on sales, but some people build a good business from it. What I’m talking about is not webcam per se, but video clips that are sold over the Internet.

Making the clips is as easy as using a videocam. Better quality clips (good lighting, good sound, high def, etc.) will sell better.

Marketing them seems to be pretty simple too. A popular site is www.clips4sale.com (As I recall; I’m at work and don’t dare go exploring.) You fill out a form, choose a descriptive name for your site and start posting clips, no upfront charge. People looking for the particular brand of adult entertainment that your title and tags say you’re offering can see still photos of your clips, and short samples if you so choose. They buy with a credit card or an adult version of Pay Pal, and the overall site keeps track and sends you a monthly check. The price to buy is generally $1 per minute (less per minute for clips over 10 minutes) and the site gets a cut (half, I think).

A quick browse of the site will show that your basic strip tease and regular missionary-position sex are not staples of this particular site. It’s really for people who have a particular niche interest that is not fulfilled by other means. The good news is that your friend doesn’t necessarily have to get naked, or even show her face, if she doesn’t want to – there are clips of women smoking, or tied up fully clothed, or showing closeups of their feet, or bouncing on balloons, or walking on some guy’s chest in high heels. The most popular sites (there’s a helpful ranking of faves) tend to have some nudity, usually as part of a kink (like a topless woman smoking, or…) There are a few perversions that are banned from the site for legal reasons.

From the quality of some operations and their number of postings, it’s clear that some couples have figured out how to make a cottage industry out of their fantasies–or someone else’s, anyway. If your friend can sell a couple of thousand copies of a clip at $4 a pop, that’s a pretty good payback for an afternoon’s work.

BTW, if anyone reading this thinks you have seen or heard it all, you should check out the site–I guarantee you will learn something new.
