A film is never completed...

According to several sources and many Google searches, George Lucas said, “As a great film-maker once said, a film is never completed, only abandoned.”

The only reference I’ve found so far on line to this quote ties back to Lucas. So does anyone know who gave the original quote? Orwas he quoting himself to add spice to the conversation?

And for bonus points, how can I get the SDMB search engine to accept a complete phrase rather than showing me all the threads containing the words film, completed, abandoned

It is older than filmaking. According to some sources, it is a corruption of “Great works of art are never completed, only abandoned.” Some people attribute this quote to Leonardo da Vinci but somehow I doubt it is actually his quote.
