Since she’s been in school, she’s been around younger women – some of whom are considering going into the military. I get the impression that she’s not meeting as much hostility as she has in other places. Seems like the issue happens among older women where she is now. I suspect that if she ever decides to move to a larger city, she’ll meet even less.
Funny funny, because both when I read and typed it, I saw “weary” but was thinking “wary.” Oh, brain, you’re so wacky!
This. Right here. What is up with that? How dare you speak to a man, or have a friendly relationship with a man? You slut!
Whassamatter, you’re not after my boyfriend? What are you, a lesbian?
When I was in college I used to raise eyebrows for engaging in friendly banter with men who had girlfriends. Really pretty girlfriends, too. Often when the girlfriend or other female friends of the girlfriend were present (we’d hang out in groups). No, I wasn’t trying to steal anybody’s boyfriend away from them – as if I could – it never even occurred to me. I think it came from there not being any sort of sexual tension between us because we both knew he was “unavailable”. (Actually, in at least one instance I think the deal was that they were using each other primarily for sex and had nothing to say to each other out of bed. No banter for you!)
Jeez, women can be so catty.
Add me to the choir of THIS. I think it would be really interesting to talk to her and I’d probably bug her by my incessant questioning.
Another possible idea, is that your friend is overly paranoid and is misreading these other women. Maybe there are other aspects of her personality that the women she works with or interacts with that spurn other women, and it is nothing to do with her being a pilot.
Add me to the chorus of “they’re jealous because they’re just not as awesome as she is”. Have to admit I felt a pang of envy myself when reading the OP, just “Man, that’s cool, I wish I could be that cool”, and people whe aren’t as nice as I am <jk>:D could quite easily take that out on her by being mean.
This just came in today’s Aviation Brief:
[Flying Above The Glass Ceiling
Women are flying now not to set records but for passion, adventure and, most importantly, to build a career.](Flying Above The Glass Ceiling)
