A fucking idiot videotaped Tony Scott's suicide jump and is showing it.

they are very bad people to do such things

i did not know some of the information you typed here

yeah, me too, only heard the news about some of the works .

I save that level of outrage for people I actually know. I only have so much.

I was going to say that trying to profit from a suicide is disgusting, but you make a good point- if it’s a lot of profit, it’s a different issue. (Wait, that’s not different at all.) The guy chose to off himself in a public place, but a handful of witnesses in a specific location has to be different on some level from the web at large.

Of course not. One of the things that makes tabloids and gossip outlets different from other media is that they don’t mind paying their sources.

He’s a director. Did Man on Fire, Enemy of the State, Unstoppable.

I think people who only desire that other people stay alive for their own amusement or peace of mind are the selfish ones. If someone doesn’t feel their life is worth living, I don’t think their friends or family should point out it’d inconvenience them as they were planning on leaving their kids over while they had lunch on Thursday…

And while it’s a given that something flashy in a public place is probably going to get recorded on a cameraphone by someone, I’ve got to say I don’t understand being that person. “Holy shit, that guy is climbing the bridge- he’s going to kill himself! Oh my god- where is my phone?”

Here’s the thing, as far as this goes.

I judge no one when it comes to wanting or even needing release from pain. If a person reaches a point where continued existence is intolerable, and if they notify the appropriate people in a suitable and private way and then commit suicide in a similarly private fashion that minimizes trauma and disorder for those in the aftermath… fine.

If, however, you deliberately take those who care about you completely by surprise and kill yourself publicly in a way guaranteed to put them through as much emotional stress as possible, then yes, you’re selfish. Not for the act, but for the way in which you went about it.

Well, obviously not the guy in question here, but I could see how someone might do it to help the authorities figure out what happened. Also, it happened pretty fast, and I could also see someone thinking it was a publicity stunt or something.

Kinda makes me think about that Carlin routine where he bemoans the Fellinis of the world that feel that they have to videotape everything, closing the bit by asking the audience “Doesn’t anyone just remember things anymore?”.

Yeah, that’s my take on it too, storyteller. And it’s only fitting a director should get captured on film when he decides to off himself in such a public manner.

Like many others I adored True Romance, but another bad ass movie of his that for some reason never gets mentioned, 1990’s Revenge.

One witness (probably not the taper) said he thought the guy climbing the fence was an ‘extreme sports guy.’

Eh…It was a newsworthy event, someone caught it on video. I shoot photos for a couple of papers, and always have my camera with me. if I was there I would have shot it (provided I could have done nothing to stop it) and i would have sent the photos to the photo desk. with everyone having a camera phone it’s going to happen more and more.

No, because "moral duty " is a meaningless concept. It’s like you are asking “is there a cjdkdjfjdkd to try and stop a jumper?” There’s just no there there. There’s nothing to think about or discuss. The question lacks content.

It might be one of those things that has little impact since it’s so hard to find. I could not find a video link, some of the usual suspect sites have taken a pass on it.

I could look at the newspaper today and find 10 stories that could make me so angry I couldn’t type straight. This is not one of them.

I mean, sure, it’s a sad story and selling such a video is tacky as hell. But I just can’t muster up the rage when there are rapists and murderers and, you know, politicians out there. Good lord.

You should change your name to Snarky_King because this post is brilliant.

TMZ was actually shown the video and declined to pay for it.

I’m waiting until the final Director’s Cut comes out, with the deleted scenes and the bloopers, before I watch this.

That’d be a sensible reason.
