A Fun Job?

I can understand and respond to anyone saying anything, but there is very little I am interested in saying to anyone right now.

Can I use this to make money somehow?

Sounds like a stereotypical bartender.

Also cabdriver or barber.

You could try running for public office if you’re OK with being loathed by half the people you represent.

You can invoice people for every post.

Or offer a fixed price bid.

Bartender is a good one.

In my experience, barbers do most of the talking, and I wish they would largely shut the hell up, especially when they’re running the clippers right next to my ear and i can’t hear what they’re saying.

I think barbers out talk you to get you to be quiet and hold still. Bartenders don’t bother because it’s pointless to out talk drunks, and the tips increase the more they pretend they care what you are saying.

Store cashier. People love chatting with store cashiers.

Opinions vary. If the chatting can continue efficiently while keeping the line moving at a brisk clip, all is well. If not, don’t be surprised if the store manager gets a few words of complaint from me about the cashier who can’t shut up and do the job.

Or am I being whooshed?

No, I can chat and ring up, as can most of my fellow cashiers. If a customer doesn’t respond, I don’t push it.

I love talking with the children on the line, but if any child seems reluctant, I immediately stop it.

Bingo. You just have to remember " And how does that make you feel?"

“How did it feel when I said nothing for half an hour?”

Expensive.
