While on the subject, I’ve always thought that Jaime and Cersei were REALLY stupid in this instance. They can’t keep their paws off each other for one state visit? You’re in a strange castle, you have no idea what the normal routine of servants and such is, you’re doing something that will probably mean your death…HELLO!
Well, they were in one of the abandoned keeps, and almost everyone was away on the hunting trip. Plus they were probably unable to have sex for . . . I dunno, a month while they were traveling from King’s Landing to Winterfell. Yeah, it was pretty stupid, but both of them are known for their recklessness and impatience.
No fantasy series would be complete without at least one Tolkien ripoff.
Yes, I expected more spectacularly blond hair on the Lannisters, too, considering that it’s a plot point.

Well, maybe, but last night they only used subtitles when they switched locations.

From what I recall reading (and they may have dropped this idea, since it was a while ago) it’s only in the opening credits. If you watch the opening credits the cities or places they go to on the map will be key places for the events of the story for that episode. It would probably take several replays to get it, and as I said they may have dropped the whole concept. GRRM was quite excited about it in the interview I read about this concept, but that was months ago.

Haven’t read the books, and I posted upthread about whether it was worthwhile to watch in that case.
The first episode hooked me enough to watch it 3 times, once with close-captioning. Also I read about it a bit. So yes, after three viewings, with captions, I feel I know what’s going on, more or less (SO dense!)
The very blonde girl (Dany) looks like Frank Frazetta could have painted her, as does her evil-looking husband. The little boy (Bran) is so heartbreakingly cute, I can’t believe they maybe killed him off in the very first episode .
The art direction is gorgeous (love the mantelpiece full of decades of dripping candles) and the opening credits are amazing. I’m looking forward to it this week.
