Yes, discussion and griping about the new(ish) Eye-Roll smilie has taken place in this forum. But, nothing has been done about it. That’s not acceptable, so I made a new one for your posting pleasure.
But first, before you look at it, let me explain my changes:

[li]The eye-roll smilie should not be blue. Blue is for someone “blue in the face” yelled out, or a cyanotic blue bloater bronchitis sufferer, neither of which applies to an eye roller. Someone exasperated by someone’s idiotic remarks should not exactly be crimson red with anger, but certainly flushed pink with rising blood pressure. So, pinkish hue it is.[/li]
[li]An eye roller’s eyes should not be rolling left (that points to the logical side of your brain), they should be rolling right (to the creative side of your brain…if you’re suffering a fool, you will be trying to creatively thinking of ways to get away from him). So, right rolling it is. [/li]
[li]Likewise, suffering fools is wearisome. Bags under the eyes are needed.[/li]
[li]A small, half-hearted smile is no indication of exasperation. A lopsided sneer is needed.[/li][/ul]
Willy will of course need to be reduced to fit in the SDMB smilie collection. However, I recommend posting him full-sized for emphasis, when dealing with particularly tedious Dopers (not that there’s many of those around here :rolleyes:).
This is where I think your laudable efforts went wrong. When I roll my eyes, I don’t sneer. It’s also what’s wrong with the current rolleyes: the mouth should be depicted minimally, if at all. Imagine :rolleyes: without his little mouth: perfect, barring the blue colour.
I’d also have put the eyes straight up rather than left or right.
Alright, alright…jeesh, don’t get your panties in a bunch! Whaddya expect, it was just a first draft. ( I guess you can guess who I’m going to be using the new smilie on :rolleyes: )
Too angry. If the current smilie were yellow and had a straight line for a mouth, I’d be happy with it, although, I loved the one we had at Fathom, where the eyes actually rolled.
The current blue one looks more like “I’ve got a secret!” The mouth on “dubious” would work better for “eyeroll,” but I think a straight line work work even better.
I found a perfect one by Googling, but it’s so small, I didn’t bother to link. It’s straightforward: yellow, eyes straight up, mouth a single line.
Haha, you do realize that the arrows will just turn into about two grey pixels after being shrunk to proper emoticon size? And the teeth won’t show as anything but a blob either. Eyebrows won’t translate, either. Look at the other smilies: has to be extremely simple. It you’re serious about replacing it, work in the proper size and format: a 16 pixel by 16 pixel gif. You can even do it in MSPaint and get a fully-fledged usable result.
That being said, pink and a sneer is a terrible choice in my opinion. I associate neither with rolleyes. And the left brain/right brain thing is BS, it doesn’t matter what way they roll.
