A gnat is buzzing around my head. Excuse me while I swat it.

Nope. You people get your wish. I quit.

I’m sorry that I’m petty and shallow. I’m sorry that I have no social skills. I’m sorry that I didn’t kill myself 6 months ago.

Goodbye.

Bye. Have fun.

I really hate self pity, especially from someone who’s a pampered college kid and relatively new on the board.

Sheesh! Good grief! Stop being the drama queen!

We’ll forget it soon enough if you will cut the insults. A lot of people have pulled faaaarrr worse shit than you, and are still here, productively posting, because they improved their attitude. We’re a forgiving bunch. We’ll forget about this thread soon enough, as long as you don’t remind us of it by repeating the behavior which prompted this thread. (If you can follow all of that!)

And I hasten to add - many of the SDMB members have not read this thread, will never read this thread, and will never know of the trouncing you got here. And all of this will fade away.

It’s just another life lesson, my dear fellow!

Yeah. I went through it, too. Not as bad, but I should have known better.

OK, Ye Ole Betting Boothe is open for business!!

10 bucks says it’s gonna be Amiga 500 next time

Techchick sez:

Ya know what? NEITHER AM I!

An engineer has a degree and a license and lots of education in math-intensive subjects I can’t make hide nor hair of. My education is in Anthropology and Archeology–I’m a trained graverobber. I have more formal training in programming and networking than I do in engineering. I am usually entitled an “engineer” of some sort, and have only recently made an effort to not be embarassed by it.

You are a tech chick. I am a CAD guy. We both have an excess of experience in using some pretty nasty software and hardware, but it was mostly hard work and self-education that has kept us dancing away from the precipice of obsolescence. Those other four CAD systems? Most are no longer made, trampled under the Autocad juggernaut. Drawing by hand? In INK? Buggy whip technology, literally. A skill less likely to find one a job than COBOL. Almost less likely than Forth! (Now I’ll have the only two people who EVER got paid to program in Forth mad at me. And I’m sure they are Dopers.)

Altair angered me with his assumption of technological superiority over any of us. I have no desire to try to put myself above my friends, because I simply don’t belong there. I do what I do to keep the wolf from the door. You would have done the same in my shoes.

Can I go back to being a mild-mannered buffoon now?

ALTAIR, if you’re still reading this, I’d just point out that dropzone’s last post was a “simulpost” with yours asking people to let up on you – that is, he posted simultanously with you. So although it seemed like he was still jumping on you after you’d asked him to stop, he really wasn’t – he was typing and posting at the same time you were. For you to then post “I guess you won’t let up on me; goodbye” indicates that you didn’t realize the last two previous posts were entered at the exact same time.

For what that’s worth.

I said:

In all fairness, I must add that I’ve been through it MORE THAN ONCE!

Some people NEVER learn.

Altair, here is some friendly advice (seriously, no cream pie hidden behind my back):

Wait a couple of days, then come back. It takes a couple of days for a Pit thread to sink down to the bottom and then off the page. Your last couple of posts here sounded like you’re actually an OK guy, that you know how to put on the brakes when you have to.

Okay. Chalk this all up to a learning experience, and when you come back, pause and consider before calling ANYBODY else an asshole.

And I don’t blame you one bit for taking your website off your Profile. I went and looked at it, courtesy of Sexton’s link, and I didn’t think it looked so bad, certainly not enough to qualify for Weird Earl’s. Compared to Walter Miller, it looked positively civilized. I think there was meant to be a lot of sarcasm in it that just doesn’t always come across, through the pixels.

You have to understand, also, that Techchick and Bill Gates have been mortal enemies for a long time. I bet if you went and looked up all her Pit flame threads, fully a third of them would be involving Microsoft. Anybody wanna check me on that? So for you to come in and not only give her gratuituous advice about her toolbar, but to post something like “Microsoft Rules!” or whatever it was, well, it’s guaranteed to pop her cork.

So that’s a learning experience, too. This is all part of the give-and-take of a message board. I think all of us at one time or another have been furious enough with another poster to make a grand, dramatic exit, (“oh, yeah? well, fuck you, I’m outta here!”) but we all come back, sooner or later.

And this wouldn’t be the first time a simulpost led to trouble. So chill till Wednesday, then we’ll see you around, 'kay?

Personally, I don’t look on you as petty and shallow. You are young. Shit, we all were. I remember thinking when I was your age that my parents were stupid. I found out they weren’t. (I’m not really sure what this has to do with anything. :D:D )

Look at it on the bright side. You CAN make a web page. Not bad either. I, on the other hand, am lucky to be able to turn on my computer without looking in the directions, let alone build a web site. I’m 51 years old. So your miles ahead of me already.

Do like I would do if I were in this situation. Take it with a lump of coal, learn from it and keep on keepin’ on.
Don’t let it get you down. And don’t quit.

Do this instead. -----> :D:D

Well, if this happens to every newbie, I guess I’ll be a sport.
:: Bends over ergonomically correct office chair, drops trou, whispers…::

yer all assholes

Is there a doctor in the house? I’m afraid that Spider is about to have a foot stuck in his ass.
