Does anyone know the source of this quote? I read in an interview of Jon Fishman (Phish) in Playboy (Apr. 2000) and it stuck with me, he said:
“I heard that some Broadway composer said a good lyric makes you think, a good melody makes you feel, and a good song makes you feel thoughts”
Who was the composer? Or was it someone else?
Have you Googled that? It sounds familiar. Maybe I ran across it in a book on lyric writing by Gene Lees. I forget the title right off. I’ll try for both and get back to you.
