Actually, If I understand CCW laws right, you can kick them out. Also the permits apply to concealed weapons, so if they were carrying one the right way, you wouldn’t even know.

A lot of other states have similar laws(38 total at last count, I believe), partially because not everyone gets the knee-jerk “Guns are bad, M’kay” Reaction when some tragedy occurs(and I don’t know how Sept. 11 applies considering the bad guys were packing hijacked jetliners).

Here you go. Understanding the Impact of Minnesota’s New Gun Law on Real Estate

Here are some highlights:

Beginning on May 28, a property owner or operator will be able to exclude persons carrying weapons only by following specific rules. Under the new law, the owner or operator of a “private establishment” may exclude weapons from the premises only by making a “reasonable request” that firearms not be brought into the establishment.

And…

What is a “Reasonable Request”? The definition of “reasonable request” under the new law is very specific. Owners and operators of private establishments who wish to exclude persons carrying firearms must:

* Prominently post a conspicuous sign at every entrance to the establishment containing the following language: “(IDENTITY OF OPERATOR) BANS GUNS IN THESE PREMISES.”; and
* Personally inform the person of the posted request and demand compliance. 

Unless both of these steps are taken, a person carrying a firearm may lawfully remain on the premises.

And…

Parking Facilities. Under the new law, firearms may not be prohibited in parking facilities or areas (whether public or private, whether owned or leased, and whether at a school or place of employment).

So, yes, you still can ask someone with a gun to leave your business, but only if you already have posted the sign! But, you say, can’t you ask someone to leave your business for any reason? I’m not sure now. Personally, I think lawyers are going to have a field day with this stupid law.

I couldn’t find a link to the law itself…it is brand new.

I object to the law because it seems to be poorly written and not well thought out at all. A school can’t keep you from having a gun in their parking lot now…most schools won’t even let you smoke a cigarette there!

Maybe most states’ CCW laws are sane, but I don’t think this one is.
